Authorities in northeast Tennessee are searching for a man who is missing and feared drowned after he went fishing.
Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes said 48-year-old Timothy Lee Powell's chair, glasses and other belongings were found on the bank of the Watauga River, near his home.
The Johnson City Press reported Powell was last seen on Sunday and was missed when he didn't show up for dinner the next day.

Body found in Watauga that of missing fisherman

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) - A body found by rafters in the Watauga River has been identified as that of a fisherman missing for a week.
The Johnson City Press reported the Carter County Sheriff's Department confirmed the identity as that of 48-year-old Timothy Lee Powell.

I am from the county where Mr. Powell lost his life in the Watauga River. The Watauga can be very swift and also very cold, even in summer. I have not heard what exactly caused him to lose his life but the speculation is that he slipped in and drowned, so he was either not a swimmer or the current was too strong for him. Sad story.
