Police are waiting to learn if skeletal remains found in lower Florence County are those of a man who's been missing for nearly five years.

Thursday afternoon, a man who was moving a mobile home off of North Old Georgetown Road, between the Scranton-Coward area, found the remains.

Police tell us the mobile home once belonged to 54-year-old Randy Bratschi, who has been missing since 2004.

Officers say they can't confirm or deny at this time if the remains are those of Bratschi.

They say hopefully a forensic pathologist will help to determine that in a few days.

Police say Bratschi's disappearance is suspicious, because he was brutally beaten the month before.

Randy’s wife, Brenda Bratschi had been out on bond since October 2004 when she was arrested and charged with assault and battery with intent to kill in connection with the assault of her husband.

Investigators say she beat Randy Bratschi with a wooden club.

He disappeared about two months later and is now presumed dead.

“There were on two different occasions where investigators, along with some cadaver dogs, did in fact go to this particular location, along with many other locations, but unfortunately we were unable to produce anything at that particular time,“ said Captain Brett Camp of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

Whether or not the body was placed there at a later time, investigators cannot say.

What they can say, is that they are investigating this case, as a homicide.

“Obviously the body was placed there by some means, though we’re not sure how. It probably took some effort to place the body in that position over time,“ said Nunn.

This is a strange quote..."place the body in that position over time". I wonder what kind of position the body was in and what does he mean by over time?

Randy's body was found under his mobile home. By "that position," I think it means under the mobile home. By "over time," I think it means that digging the hole/removing the floor/etc. and then putting the body there took quite some time, perhaps a few weeks. That's my interpretation.

Remains found in Florence sent to Texas

NewsChannel 15 has learned skeletal remains found underneath a missing Florence County man's home are being sent to Texas for further analysis.

Two weeks ago, a man moving a mobile home found the remains under Randy Bratschi's home on North Old Georgetown Road between Coward and Scranton. Bratschi has been missing since November of 2004.

Police say the samples of bones they sent to the State Law Enforcement Division are so degraded that they can't get a positive match.

After a four-day trial in general sessions court in Florence... Brenda Miles Bratschi of Coward was convicted of murder in the 2004 death of Randy Bratschi.

Minutes later, Circuit Judge Craig Brown sentenced Brenda Bratschi to life in prison. She was also convicted of burying a body without notice or inquiry, for which she received a three-year sentence. She was given credit for time served on that sentence.
