Two female roommates were found shot to death by a third roommate who returned home Sunday morning.

The discovery was made around 9:30 a.m. at the Hidden Woods Apartments in the 3100 block of Godby Road in College Park.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Darren Lyn spoke with investigators at the scene, who told him that there was no sign of forced entry or a struggle. Investigators said both victims had been shot in the head once.

It sounds like it was someone they knew and the person finding the bodies becomes a suspect until they can rule them out.

Since it happened on a Sat. night/Sunday morning, it makes me want to know if they had gone out and brought someone back to the apartment with them. It doesn't give the ages of the victims, but the address leads me to believe they could be college aged.

ETA: A third roommate discovered the bodies of the two women when she returned home from work around 9:41 a.m., Atkins said.

The TOD can rule her out.

Execution style sounds like a drug hit.

Two days ago, Lanaetria Renee Butler told her mom over the phone she was hoping her ex-boyfriend would let her see the couple’s three children.

Lanaetria Butler, 28, and a roommate 34-year-old Karida Winkler were each found with a single gunshot to the head Sunday morning at their apartment in the 3100 block of Godby Road, police spokesman Sgt. Eddie Atkins said.

It was Lanaetria Butler’s ex-boyfriend that called her family in Jacksonville, Fla., with the news of her murder.

“He said, ‘A boy that knows me and Renee told me Renee had gotten killed,’” said Elizabeth Butler, Lanaetria’s grandmother. “He was crying when he called me.”

So sad on many levels.

Jeez, I had my eye on the ex :waitasec: ... oh well I'm glad they got 'em.

Yeah - I was thinking the same thing - really seemed like it was someone they knew.

I no longer automatically suspect the ex or spouse first thing or even think it is someone they know. People are killing people all the time that they don't even know. It is like some in our society have gone mad.

It is so frightening how some kill at will for the most trivial of reasons and never blink and eye.

imo

I hear you, OBE. In the beginning of this case there were a few small details (no forced entry, no obvious robbery) that seemed to fit any angry-ex profile.

The fourth suspect in an execution-style double slaying in College Park has turned himself in.

Christopher Lorenzo Varner, 23, turned himself in Wednesday. He was wanted in connection with a July 18 double slaying in College Park.

Christopher Lorenzo Varner, 23, of Riverdale turned himself in to Clayton County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday morning, College Park police said. Varner refused to talk to detectives.

Varner was the final suspect wanted in the July 18 killings of Lanaetria Renee Butler, 28, and Karida Winkler, 34, who were shot to death in their apartment on Godby Road.

Police said the motive was robbery but would not say what was taken.

The day after the killings, police arrested three College Park men: Boubacar Traore, 18, Anthony Lenois Wilder, 19, and Carnell Owens III, 19.

All four suspects are being held without bond on murder charges.

From September 2012:

Fulton County prosecutors withdrew plans to seek the death penalty against Christopher Lorenzo Varner after he agreed to plead guilty to two counts of murder and other felony charges. Varner was sentenced to two life sentences...

In March, a Fulton County jury found another defendant in the case not guilty. Anthony Wilder faced a life-without-parole sentence of murder, armed robbery and burglary charges in connection with the killings.

Couldn't find anything on Carnell Owens, but Georgia DOC says Boubacar Traore is serving 20 years each for two counts of voluntary manslaughter and five more for burglary:
