GUILTY TX - Dr. Bernard Albina for sex abuse, child *advertiser censored*, Houston, 2009

Dr. Bernard Zacharia Albina, 69, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, continuous sexual abuse and two counts of promotion of child *advertiser censored*.

Albina is accused of sexually abusing a young male for more than a decade, and investigators say he wasn’t the doctor’s only victim.

Albina was arrested Tuesday morning at his Piney Point home.

Investigators began looking into the case in 2007 when a young man contacted them.

Police say a 24-year-old man came forward to say Dr. Albina started sexually assaulting him when he was 6 years old, and that the sex continued into adulthood.

“A member of his family was paid to let him be with Albina and the money was paid to keep him quiet,” said Roscoe.

It turns out, the surgeon was generous with many charitable groups, but was also generous with his victims. A copy of Albina’s probable cause charge alleges that the doctor paid more than $250,000 to families to gain access to their children.
In addition, investigators say Dr. Albina purchased at least two other homes, allowing his victims and their families to live there free of charge. In one case, they lived in one of the homes for up to 10 years.

Police searched several properties and seized financial records, 14 mini DVD tapes, 138 CD/DVDs and multiple pornographic images.

“Not all pedophiles have 82 binders with notebook pages where they’ve cut out research, news articles, rapes, murders and brutal deaths,” said Roscoe.

In addition to raiding his home, HPD also raided a storage unit on Westpark, a false office front on Crawford Street, where Albina allegedly brought boys, and the orthopedic surgeon’s practice on St. Joseph Parkway.

Police say that there are two other victims, who are now teenagers, and another victim, who is now an adult. They cannot locate the adult victim.

A Houston doctor accused of buying his way into the role of adopted grandfather for several families may have paid one of his victims $155,000 during 10 years of sexual abuse to keep the boy quiet.
He said Albina also bought houses where he let families live for access to the children, who were between the ages of 4 to 6 when Albina allegedly began abusing them.

“I know of two houses for certain, but there may be more,” Devlin said.

Devlin also said an adult guardian of one of the children may face charges for taking money for access to one of the children. He said statute of limitations may hinder prosecution, but a charge could be levied as part of an ongoing conspiracy.

They recovered hours of videotaped sexual acts with the children, which they still are processing.

Albina was known as "Uncle Bernie" to young boys, a sweet old man they couldn't help but trust, but in criminal complaints there are allegations making veteran officers sick. "Bernard Albina is one of the most obsessed child molesters I've ever seen since I've been in the unit," said J.T. Roscoe, Houston Police Department.

Albina is accused of molesting four boys for several years from the time they were about five years of age. Two are now adults. The others are pre teens. The alleged abuse dates back to 1988, and prosecutors say it was still happening as early as this month. "He is so smooth, so patient and so slow he builds them up to where he can abuse them," said Roscoe
Roscoe says the proof is on camera. In search warrants executed two weeks ago, investigators seized more than 130 DVDs, allegedly of Albina with the children. They're seen in his mansion, in his cars and at a private medical office on Crawford, which prosecutors call his "love shack."

several of those items were labeled with the name of a 12-year-old boy who police found last week. He told authorities he had been assaulted seven times in the last two months by Dr. Albina.

One of the alleged victims, now 24, went to police in 2007 with information, setting in motion an investigation that has produced more evidence than Devlin has ever seen. "The problem is he had significant access to children, both as a doctor and in the community. There could be an untold number of victims."

Prosecutors want a high bond placed on the doctor. They say he's a danger to every child in the community, and they believe he's a flight risk because of his ties to other countries.

1) He was doing this up until last month that LE knows of with a 12 year old boy but they got the tip on him TWO YEARS AGO! They say he is a "danger to every child in the community", but it takes TWO YEARS to get him off the street.. and a 12 year old boy was molested 7 times in the LAST TWO MONTHS. What the freak gives?

2) He is a flight risk with, ""ties to other countries" Who wants to bet he has been to some of those countries that are known as boy~love paradise? Obviously he has victims on foreign soil as well.... yet a man who lives in a million dollar home who is a flight risk has bail set at 400,000? Again, what gives???!!!

Is this the system at it's best? I would HOPE NOT!
