On Tuesday, divers were out searching the water near where her car was found in Virgilina. At this point, they're doing anything and everything they can to figure out where Hattie Brown might be.

Clay Overholt with the State Police Scuba Team said, "Part of the location here is near where the vehicle was found and so we're just starting to check all the rivers and creeks and bridges."

Overholt says the search will take two to three weeks. He's confident that if there's anything in the water, they'll find it.

"Each area is essentially getting searched twice, sometimes three times," Overholt said.

HALIFAX CO. - State Police are searching for a missing Halifax County woman, in the hopes that she can help their investigation on a different missing woman.

In a news release sent Wednesday evening, State Police said they’re searching for Krystal Lenora Pumphrey. Investigators say Pumphrey was subpoenaed to appear in court back in November of 2009, hoping that she could give them information related to the disappearance of Hattie Gertrude Brown.

Brown disappeared from Halifax County back in May of 2009. She was last seen at the South Boston Sheetz. Investigators found her car on a farm in Halifax County on July 7, 2009. The car had been destroyed by fire.

Brown’s family is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to Brown’s safe return.

State Police believe Pumphrey is either in Halifax County, or in North Carolina near the border with Halifax County.

If you’ve seen Pumphrey, or have any information about her, call State Police Special Agent T.A. LaRue at 1-800-552-0962.

A woman wanted for failing to appear in court in connection with a missing person case turned herself in to authorities Wednesday night.

Krystal Lenora Pumphrey, 24, of Halifax, turned herself in at the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office shortly after 7 p.m., according to a news release from the Virginia State Police.

Police hope Pumphrey can provide information about the disappearance of Hattie Gertrude Brown, 48, who has been missing since May 2009.

Authorities subpoenaed Pumphrey to appear in court in November. When she didn’t appear, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Earlier Wednesday, state police issued a release asking for the public’s help in locating Pumphrey.

Brown was last seen at the Sheetz gas station at the intersection of U.S. 501 and 58 in Halifax County on May 16, 2009. Her vehicle — a silver 2003 Volkswagon Jetta, was found on farm property in Halifax County on July 7, completely destroyed by fire.

The news release stated that Brown’s family is still offering a $10,000 reward “for information related to and safe return of” Brown.

Within the last year, the Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Southside have seen their share of missing persons and mysterious death cases.

Often times the public takes as much interest in these stories as the detectives trying to figure out what happened.

Investigators keep following leads even if they run into a dead end.

Halifax County investigators are still looking for Hattie Brown, who was last seen in May.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, South Boston Police Department and Virginia State Police continue to aggressively pursue the case of missing Halifax County woman Hattie Gertrude Brown.

It was a year ago yesterday she was last seen at a gas station outside of South Boston with her nephew, Derrick Brown.

At this stage of the investigation, investigators do suspect foul play in Brown’s disappearance, according to Corinne Geller, Virginia State Police public relations manager.

Danville, VA - Mecklenburg County investigators say there were remains found on Buggs Island Lake.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office says the remains are in such poor condition, they cannot tell whether the body was that of a male or female. Sheriff Danny Fox says this is the second body they've found at the lake in the past year and that they still don't know who the first body belongs to.

There are four adults on the state police web site listed as missing in our viewing area. Hattie Brown from Halifax County who's been missing since last May, Virginia Welch and Joan Cook both from Roanoke, and Robert Lee Kelley from Buckingham County.

What a sad story...
The nephew is so clearly guilty, it is sickening...he lied about seeing her that night, and only admitted it when pushed...and he was seen on video getting into her car at 2am at a gas station after he called her for a "ride"...her car was so badly burned they could only determine the type of car, etc. by the VIN...he has been named a suspect, for all the good it has done...she has not been found...JMO
