George told Belich that he was nervous and hoped that he could keep his emotions in check during his deposition. He also said his focus Wednesday is just to tell the truth.

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer says George's testimony could be a key element for the state because of his law enforcement training.

"He bolsters and strengthens those two links in the chain of circumstantial evidence against [Casey]," Sheaffer said.

George Anthony was working hard at starting the deposition off on a positive note. He was admittedly nervous and thinking about whether prosecutors' questions might set him off.

"You seem a little short of breath," a reporter commented to George on Wednesday morning.

"A little nervous. I'm just nervous. I'm, a year ago I never would've ventured that I thought I'd be doing something like this. I was just the old George. I was just some guy who lived on Hopespring Drive," he said.

Prosecutors are questioning Casey Anthony's father under oath at the State Attorney's Office today.

George Anthony is being deposed as part of the criminal case against his daughter. The interview is not public so it's unclear what George Anthony is telling attorneys.

George Anthony also testified before an Orange County grand jury in October. That's when Casey Anthony was indicted on the murder charge.

He admitted Wednesday that he was nervous, but told reporters it's a process that he just has to get through. He also said he has not seen his daughter, Casey Anthony, in months, but would like to. When asked what he expected for his deposition, Anthony said he didn't know, but that he would try not to get emotional and just ask what is answered.

"I'm just here to answer questions and stuff that I need to answer that's about all I can say. It's going to be hard today. Every day is hard, you guys. Every day it never gets any easier. It's a process you just gotta go forward. Some days are a little easier than others. Today is a hard day, so hopefully I keep the emotions in check and do the best I can. I can't guarantee what will happen when I get up there. I just gotta answer the stuff that's asked," Anthony said.

After hours of answering prosecutors' questions behind closed doors, Anthony's lawyer said things are going smoothly.

"Hopefully we'll get done today and we're getting done easily and professionally," attorney Brad Conway said.

The Case Against Casey Anthony returned to the Orange County Courthouse Wednesday for the deposition of her father.

Her father, George Anthony, was deposed by prosecutors preparing for Casey's murder trial.

As he was walking into the courthouse, Anthony told the media that it would be another hard day, one of many since his granddaughter died and his daughter was arrested for her murder.

The depositions won't become public until someone files them with the court.

Casey Anthony: George talks about nerves before deposition

"I'm just here to answers questions and stuff that I need to answer," he told reporters outside the prosecutor's offices. "Is it going to hard? It's going to be hard today. Every day is hard, you guys."

Belich shared the theory of WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer that prosecutors "are questioning the Anthonys under oath in case they become hostile witnesses by changing their stories to try to protect Casey."

George Anthony told reporters, "Hopefully, I keep the emotions in check and do the best I can. I can't guarantee what's going to happen when I get up there. I'm going to answer the stuff that is asked."

George is following wife Cindy and son Lee in talking to prosecutors. WESH's Kealing promised more in later newscasts on what George said about his family and his job prospects.

UPDATED: Casey Anthony: George's attorney says deposition going 'easily' -- 'I just want to work again,' George says

"Hopefully, we'll get done today, and we're getting through it easily and professionally," Anthony attorney Brad Conway told WESH-Channel 2's Bob Kealing.

WESH offered the update at 4 p.m. today. At 5, Kealing noted that Cindy Anthony, George' wife, and Lee Anthony, George's son, had declined to answer reporters' questions at their depositions last week.

But George talked about his difficulty in finding a job. "They don't want to bring me on -- they probably think something negative might come out of something," he said. "I just want to work again."

WFTV-Channel 9's Kathi Belich said George -- of the three Anthonys -- "seems to be most concerned about how he's answering the questions." Belich added that George could face legal problems about any inconsistent statements today because his grand jury testimony is on record.

Belich described George as "upbeat but winded" on his arrival at the prosecutor's office. He was carrying transcripts of his previous statements. He told WFTV that he had no idea what prosecutors asked wife Cindy last week, Belich said.

Attorney Won't Deny Anthonys Have Book Deal
Posted: 5:47 pm EDT August 5, 2009
Updated: 7:08 pm EDT August 5, 2009

George seemed nervous about answering questions Wednesday, but WFTV reporter Kathi Belich found out he may have had some questions of his own for a book publisher.

Eyewitness News heard from a reliable tipster that the Anthonys, their private investigator and their lawyer are negotiating a package book deal with Simon and Schuster, which is owned by CBS, so Eyewitness News asked about it, because the publisher isn't talking.

Cindy Anthony told Eyewitness News last year that she was considering a book and now a tipster, who's been right before, told Eyewitness News the Anthonys, their private investigator Dominic Casey, who was videotaped searching and probing the woods where Caylee's remains were later found, and their lawyer, went to New York recently for talks with Simon and Schuster, a division of CBS that Wikipedia calls the fourth largest publisher in the country.

"I heard that you, George, Cindy and Dominic Casey went to New York and met with Simon and Schuster recently about a book deal," Belich told attorney Brad Conway.

Casey Anthony: WFTV asks if George and Cindy have a book deal
posted by halboedeker on Aug 5, 2009 6:30:26 PM

George Anthony's big day offered several stunners.

"We heard from a reliable tipster that the Anthonys, their private eye and their lawyer are negotiating a package deal for a book with Simon & Schuster," Kathi Belich said.

The publisher, part of the CBS Corp., was not commenting, she added.

Belich said her source was "a tipster who's been right before." A tipster of the other variety wouldn't be very helpful.

Belich, at her restrained best, asked Conway about a book deal. "I wouldn't comment on anything personal like that," Conway said.

Belich: "Why not?"

Conway: "There's no reason to."

Oh, pal, are you ever wrong on that.

Belich: "Is it true?"

Conway: "I'm not going to way whether it's true or not true."
