I know this is a video from June 2009 but I just had to share. It is sad because a young man lost his life in War, yet it is happy because it restores our Faith in people. Please watch the entire video. It was shot from a Police car on the Homecoming route. Have a tissue handy.

Staff Sgt. Beale's return home

This video is a reminder of who we are as a Nation . Please take the time to view it.
Killed in action the week before, the body of Staff Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta on June 11, 2009 . The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough, Georgia. A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time.
Nowadays one can be led to believe that America no longer respects honor and no longer honors sacrifice outside the military. Be it known that there are many places in this land where people still recognize the courage and impact of total self-sacrifice. Georgia remains one of those graceful places. The link below is a short travelogue of that day's remarkable and painful journey.

Thank you for posting this. I wish all of our military, no matter how they come home, could have the same respect and honor.

Dolly, thank you for posting the video. Makes me proud to be filled with Georgia blood. (born and raised in south Ga.)

I cried the whole way through this video. For the son, who lost his life, for the mother who lost her son. Selfishly, for me. Because as I'm sitting here in Ohio, my son is sitting in the Atlanta airport, waiting to board a flight home from ROTC field training, where he's been for the past 6 weeks. To know that someday, he (and I, as his mother) could be asked to make this same sacrifice -- I don't know how mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, husbands, wives and children have borne it.

God, I hate war. And I hate the people who make war necessary.

I hate war too Oh_Gal..I can't imagine what that poor mother must have felt losing her son to such a hateful war. I really thought twice about posting it in this thread BUT the love that Georgia felt for this young man and his family that lost his life...You've just gotta love them and embrace the people of Georgia for showing the love and respect to this young man on his final trip home. I cried, I smiled, I was overwhelmed. I wonder how many young men die in this country that barely get a small obit in their local paper when they ALL deserve a Hero's welcome home to their final resting place.

You're right. The outpouring of love and support for someone they probably didn't even know was overwhelming. It is very heartwarming in that regard! I'm just being maternally hormonal.
