NY - Lisa Bowolak, 44, Herkimer, 5 Aug 2009
18 Aug 09
State police in Herkimer are still looking for a missing Herkimer woman last seen Aug. 5.
Lisa Bowolak, 44, was last seen in a wooded area near West Canada Creek and the Mohawk River, state police said. She’s described as 5-foot-2 and about 200 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. She’s also missing several teeth.
Inv. Frank Spatto said there are currently very few leads to follow in the case.
“We’re just checking on persons who may have seen her last and trying to establish a timeline of where she may have gone and where she may be at this point,” he said.
Spatto said an extensive ground search was conducted right after Bowolak’s disappearance, which include divers searching West Canada Creek, the Mohawk River, and the Barge Canal.
Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at 866-7275.

One year since Herkimer woman goes missing, family hopes discovery leads to relief
But it was not state police who found the remains.
"Searches halted up until now...until we did contact them," said Bawolak's sister, Barbara Lowell, speaking about Eagle Valley Search Dogs. "So, I think they should get all the credit for what they did for us."

HERKIMER — The human remains found Aug. 28 in the area where Herkimer woman Lisa Bawolak went missing a year earlier have been identified as belonging to Bawolak, a family member said Saturday.
Autopsy results showing the cause of death won’t be available until Monday, but officials have identified the remains as definitely those of Bawolak, her sister Barbara Lowell said.
“We’re very grateful that she was found,” Lowell said. “We’re just sad that it took so long.”
Rest in Peace Lisa.
