The search for 27-year-old Dustin Englebrecht continues, with Mason County law enforcement, the Illinois State Police, and now family members and friends joining in the effort.

Englebrecht has been missing since Aug. 28, when his fiancée, Stephanie Kearney, returned home from work to find him gone. Kearney and their 9-year-old son, Zeke, have waited for word ever since.

The search has been ongoing, but authorities have been unable to find anything substantial to lead them to Englebrecht’s whereabouts, said Mason County Sheriff Wayne Youell.

MASON CITY —

Family members of Dustin Englebrecht say a body was found at 6 p.m. Monday on his property, but they are still awaiting official confirmation that it is him.

“They have actually found what they believe to be his body out here at his property,” Englebrecht’s uncle, Richard Fuller, said Monday night.

Englebrecht’s aunt, Molli Fuller, said family members were mowing the lawn at Englebrecht’s property Monday when the body was discovered.

“They were just out there taking care of the grounds and came across (the body)” she said.

Englebrecht, 27, went missing Aug. 28. A small amount of splattered blood was found near a barn on his rural Mason City property.

A body was located in a grave near his property about 6 p.m. Monday, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office, the Illinois State Police and the Mason County Coroner’s Office are investigating the matter as a homicide, according to the release. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

No suspects in Mason City death
Police aren't ruling out a connection with slaying of family in Beason

Youell said police are conducting "a careful investigation," into Englebrecht's death, which they are considering a homicide.

Youell also said the Sheriff's Department has volunteered an investigator to assist in the murder case of the Raymond Gee family in the Logan County town of Beason.

Gee, 46, Ruth Gee, 39, Austin Gee, 11, Justina Constant, 16, and Dillen Constant, 14, were all found slain in their home Monday.

A 3-year-old girl, the only survivor of the massacre, was airlifted to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Youell said an investigator with the Sheriff's Department is working on a limited basis in Beason with other law enforcement agencies, which include the FBI and Illinois State Police.

"We're not ruling anything out," he said of any possible connection between Englebrecht's death and the killing of the family. "We're looking at all the leads. We're looking at all possibilities."

"One of the last known people to see a slain Mason County man alive is also a "person of interest" in a 14-year-old unsolved murder in Pekin, police say.

"Randy Deskin, 32, of Pekin, spent part of Aug. 28 with Dustin Englebrecht, 27, at Englebrecht's rural Mason City home. Englebrecht vanished that day. His body was found Sept. 7 in a shallow grave on his property."

Glowing message: Family, friends call for justice in vigil

<<"We'll always care about Dustin," said a woman at a candlelight vigil honoring Dustin at the Mineral Springs Park Lagoon Sunday. "He always cared about us."

About 300 family members and friends called for justice for justice in the one-hour vigil. After a prayer and comments from family and friends, the group walked around the lagoon with lighted candles.

The family has talked to the FBI in the hopes that the bureau would come into the case, but an agent told the family it cannot be involved unless local police authorities invite them into the case.>>

Goeken related Price&#8217;s comments when a juror asked whether police had learned why Deskin might want to hang himself from a tree along railroad tracks several hundred yards north of his Green Valley home...

Goeken did not say when Price heard Deskin&#8217;s confession. No such testimony emerged in Deskin&#8217;s September 2011 trial, in which a Mason County jury found insufficient physical evidence to convict.
