They can't release his name because he was a minor at the time. This should be interesting to watch. he was 16 at the time, so I assume they will get permission to charge him as an adult, but for now this is an interesting angle and a juvenile case.

A 50-year-old Los Angeles man is scheduled to appear in juvenile court today after being charged with the rape and murder of an elderly Venice woman 34 years ago after DNA left at the crime scene connected him to the killing.

The man was 16 at the time prosecutors allege he raped and strangled the 80-year-old woman to death on Dec. 17, 1975, in her Venice home

How odd. Didn't they transfer Michael Skakel's case to an adult court? And he was 15 at the time of the murder. With the added burglary and robbery charges, and the fact he is 50 now, I would guess this will end up in adult court too.

I hope that they look at him with a new eye toward unsolved crimes he may have committed after that murder.

Dennis Vazquez, of Los Angeles, was found guilty of the Dec. 17, 1975 strangulation of Alice Lewis, whose body was discovered in her Venice home...

A second defendant, Kevin Michael Shanahan, 54, was also charged in Lewis’ murder, but a judge ruled in 2012 that he was incompetent to stand trial and sent to Patton State Hospital.

A killer pleaded no contest Thursday to second-degree murder in the death of an 80-year-old woman killed inside her home in Mar Vista more than four decades ago, when he was a teenager.

Kevin Shanahan, 56, was immediately sentenced to five years to life in state prison under sentencing guidelines that were in place at the time of Alice Lewis’ Dec. 17, 1975, killing, according to Deputy District Attorney Guillermo Santiso.
