State police Lt. Paul Vance said Wednesday that the case has been put to the top of the pack of DNA samples awaiting testing.

Authorities want to test DNA taken from Clark's hair, fingernails and saliva. They want to compare it with more than 150 pieces of evidence.

University of Connecticut genetics professor Linda Straus Baugh (BOW') says testing can be done in days if a case gets top priority.

Medical Examiner Says Le Died Of Strangulation
DNA Taken From Yale Lab Tech
POSTED: 12:17 pm EDT September 16, 2009
UPDATED: 4:27 pm EDT September 16, 2009

The medical examiner has ruled Annie Le's cause of death to be from traumatic asphyxia due to neck compression. The medical examiner called the manner of 24-year-old Le's death to be a homicide.

Dr. Henry Lee, a forensics expert, told Eyewitness News that traumatic asphyxiation due to neck compression is synonymous with strangulation.

DNA was taken overnight from a Yale University lab tech who works in the area of the building where Le's remains were discovered stuffed in a wall on Sunday.

The technician, 24-year-old Raymond Clark, of Middletown, was released from police custody Wednesday morning after providing DNA samples to detectives. Clark was officially named a person of interest in the investigation by police Tuesday night.

Raymond Clark & Fiancée in Love Photos 1-20
Raymond Clark III, a Yale University animal research technician seen with fiancée Jennifer Hromadka, has been described as a "person of interest," not a suspect, in Yale grad student Annie Le's death. Le's body was found stuffed behind a wall on Sept. 13, 2009, in the same laboratory where Clark worked. Investigators are hoping to figure out within days whether Clark can be ruled out as the killer.

Andrew Cohen: Relax, It’s Early in Annie Le Investigation
September 16, 2009 1:43 PM
<snipped>
It’s also no wonder, I guess, why so many people would already be demanding so many definitive answers of the New Haven law enforcement community, the generally well-meaning and well-serving members of which often have to deal with crime. Why no arrest yet? Why no charges yet? Why no “perp walk” yet? Why is he being called a “person of interest” and not a “suspect”? Why no made-for-television solution to the crime?

We know that access to the murder site was restricted. We know that clothes were seized. We know there has been or will be DNA testing, either voluntarily or not. We know there is already “a person of interest”—in custody-- who may or may not have “defensive” wounds and who may or may not have failed (or passed) a polygraph test. The police, importantly, have reassured the community that the crime was not random.

These are all signs that the arrest and charges everyone is waiting for surely is on its way. It means the police are comfortable with the pace and progress of their work and that they have good reason (another suspect? A different suspect? A confession?) for not rushing into court to get to the pre-trial stage of a case. How about we all just wait a few more days to see how it unfolds?

'Person of interest' in Annie Le murder Raymond Clark's fiance Jennifer Hromadka defended him before
Updated Wednesday, September 16th 2009, 1:01 PM
<snipped>
The girlfriend of the Yale technician questioned in connection with the murder of bride-to-be Annie Le felt compelled to defend him once before.

In a series of rambling blog entries posted in May 2008, Jennifer Hromadka shot down "rumors" about her relationship with Raymond Clark, 24.

"My boyfriend, Ray, if you don't know him, has no interest in any of the other girls at YARC as anything more than friends," Hromadka wrote, referring to the Yale Animal Resources Center. "To anyone that thinks otherwise, you might be a bit dillusional and may need to take some medication for it."

Hromadka, 23, described her live-in beau -- who works in the same Yale lab as her boyfriend -- as a gullible but loving guy who has eyes for no one but her.

"This rumor of a 'fling' is probably the most stupid thing I have ever heard and really is not even worth going into detail about," she wrote.

"If you know what I am talking about u can probably (if you have half a brain) come to the conclusion that its all a load of BS."

An attorney for a Yale University lab technician called a "person of interest" in the killing of graduate student Annie Le says his client is willing to work with authorities.

Attorney David Dworski , of Fairfield, tells The Associated Press that he represents 24-year-old Raymond Clark III. Clark was released early Wednesday by police who executed two search warrants to collect DNA and other physical evidence from Clark and his apartment.

Dworski says Clark is "committed to proceeding appropriately with the authorities." He would not comment further.

Yale Tech's Fiancee Writes On Myspace: Don't Judge
12:10 p.m. EDT, September 16, 2009
<snipped>
The fiancee of a Yale University animal research technician says on her MySpace page that she's not perfect, but cautioned people not to judge her.

"Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I'm not perfect and I don't live to be, but before you start pointing fingers make sure your hands are clean!!" writes Jennifer Hromadka, the 23-year-old woman engaged to Raymond Clark III.

The date of the MySpace posting is unclear. The page has since been taken down. Clark and Hromadka were both animal research technicians in the lab where Le worked. Her body was found stuffed behind a wall in the laboratory Sunday.

Girlfriend of Yale Lab Tech Denied Affair
Rumors that Raymond Clark, Held in Killing of Grad Student, had Affair Dismissed by Fiancee in Blog Last Year
Sept. 16, 2009
<snipped>
The fiancee of a man considered a person of interest in the killing of a female Yale graduate student dismissed allegations in blog entries last year that he was having an affair, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

"He is a bit naive, doesn't always use the best judgement, definitely is not the best judge of character but, he is a good guy," Jennifer Hromadka, 23, wrote of her boyfriend, Raymond Clark III, who police took into custody Tuesday.

No charges were filed against Clark, 24, in Middletown, but police took him into custody while searching for DNA and other physical evidence. Police said Clark would be released after they obtain evidence they need from him and his Middletown apartment.

Clark was handcuffed and escorted out of the apartment building in Middletown and into a silver car. Neighbors leaned over the apartment building's iron railings and cheered as police led him away. CBS affiliate WFSB reported that 18 FBI agents went into the apartment just after 10 p.m.

Yale Murder 'Person of Interest' Taken Into Custody
Police Search Home of Ray Clark, Who Worked at the Lab Where Annie Le's Body Found
<snipped>
Sept. 16, 2009
Police investigating the murder of Yale graduate student Annie Le searched the apartment of a "person of interest" overnight Tuesday.

No arrests were made, but police took Raymond Clark, a 24-year-old technician at the Yale lab where Le's body was found Sunday, into custody. Clark is not a student at Yale.

As of Wednesday morning, Clark had not been released. Investigators tailed Clark for days, reportedly sending as many as 15 FBI agents to follow him at a local fair over the weekend.

Approximately 150 pieces of evidence were collected from the crime scene. Clark's sister, brother-in-law and fiancee, Jennifer Hromadka, also worked in the lab building but did not go to work today.

Raymond Clark, the lab tech who police have labeled a "person of interest" in the murder of Yale grad student Annie Le, has wounds on his chest, arms and back, sources told ABC News.Sources also said investigators are finding evidence that the pint-sized scientist who only weight 90 pounds put up a fierce struggle with her attacker.

Blood splatter were found on a laundry cart and a bead from her necklace was found on the floor of the basement lab where she was killed and stuffed into a wall panel.
ABC News has also learned that Clark sent a text message to Le early Tuesday, Sept. 8, requesting a meeting to discuss the cleanliness of research mice, with which Le was working and which Clark was in charge of overseeing.

With a little research, News Channel 8 learned that Clark is a Branford native. He attended Branford High School. And, For those who knew him back then, Clark seemed like just another.

Johnson graduated with Clark in 2004. Johnson, and other graduates who didn't want to go on camera, describe Clark as a popular, but quiet kid.

"He was a good kid, very intelligent," said Johnson.

Clark was listed as an honor student. Photos from Branford yearbooks of Clark, seen as a freshman in 2001, paint a picture of a student involved in sports including a year each of track, football and baseball; although one coach said he couldn't remember Clark as an athlete.

He was involved in several school clubs, notably the Asian Awareness Club, a club teaching students about foreign cultures. School officials aren't talking about Clark.

Lab Tech Served With 2 Additional Warrants In Yale Student's Death
6:12 p.m. EDT, September 16, 2009
<snipped>
Police served two additional search warrants on Raymond Clark III early today, according to Police Chief James Lewis.

Lewis said at about 5 a.m. today, police seized Clark's Ford Mustang and searched additional property at Clark's Middletown apartment.

Lewis said at an evening press conference that investigators were still awaiting results from DNA tests. He said "If we have one match, we'll be going for an arrest warrant."

Lewis described Clark's demeanor while he was in police custody late Tuesday as cooperative, but at one point Clark declined to answer officers' questions, Lewis said. He sounded hopeful about a conclusion in the case. "I believe it's going to end in an arrest," Lewis said.
