The incident began about 1:30a.m. when an officer patrolling the park in the 1000 block of Paseo del Mar spotted a group of people walking up a pathway from the shoreline, Los Angeles police Lt. John Pasquariello of the Harbor Division station said.

"The officer went to investigate and a man in that group pointed a gun at him, and tried to fire it, but it malfunctioned," Pasquariello said.

The officer was not hurt and did not fire his weapon at the suspect.

The gunman then ran back down the pathway toward the shore and hid, he said

We are always reading of the dangers of high speed pursuit. This suspect seems to have come up with a few new dangers of his own. LOL!
