This is an extrapolation of a case featured here (post # 20, case #5). A family member of Mr. Goldie's wrote Websleuths requesting that the case be given more prominence in the hope that someone will come forward with information.
Articles referenced are from the Toronto Star editions of August 16th (pg A01) and 17th (pg A06), 1983. These articles can be accessed online by anyone with a Toronto Public Library card.

Goldie, a cab driver for Able Atlantic, was viciously beaten and slashed to death in room 47 of the Penthouse Motel on Military Trail in Scarborough, an eastern suburb of Toronto. His body was found by a fellow cabbie at 7 a.m. when the man came by to turn over the car they shared.
A man who resided in an adjacent motel room came forward with information that at 2 a.m. on the 16th he had heard a loud, violent dispute over money. He heard someone say, "That's my money", before hearing fighting sounds. "I thought they would come right through the wall, it got so rough", exclaimed the witness, but instead of calling the police, the man turned up the radio to drown out the ruckus. Had he or someone else called, Goldie might be alive today.
Other witnesses said Goldie had been drinking at nearby Forester's Tavern on Old Kingston Rd., and had flashed around a lot of money.
Goldie, who was over 6 ft tall and weighed more than 300 lbs, had a police record for fraud, violence, and drug charges, but those who knew him called him gentle and kind.
Bill Johnson, a dispatcher at the cab company who had known Goldie for five years told the Toronto Star reporter, "Steve was like a brother to me. He was always the guy breaking up the fights, not the guy starting them. It doesn't make any sense that he was so brutally murdered...He was looking forward to moving into his new townhouse. He was happy".
Jim Rickerby, manager of the Penthouse Motel, said of Goldie, "He was big and scary, but underneath he was a pussycat. He wasn't a fighter".

Goldie's family member has related to Websleuths that Goldie was a member of the "Satan's Choice" motorcycle club, and that after his murder, fellow members rallied together to help Goldie's family cope with his loss.

If you have any information about the murder of Steve Goldie, please call the Toronto Police Homicide Squad at (416) 808-7400 or call Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS. Alternatively, visit Crime Stoppers online here or email the homicide squad here.
