AL - Clyde A. Chandler, 42, Selma, Sept 2009
29 Sept 09
The body found Monday behind a business on Highland Avenue is now in the hands of the Department of Forensic Sciences, Montgomery, less than 24 hours after the discovery.
However, evidence found at the scene does give officers a strong indication of the identity of the person.
“Key items were found on the person that does match to one missing person,” said Sgt. Doug Stewart.
“We are waiting for forensic results to positively identify the person before we release the name of the person,” he added.
Authorities have several missing persons on file, including Clyde A. Chandler, who was last seen walking on Ala. 14 near Alagasco less than two weeks ago.

SELMA — The family of a missing man received heartbreaking news that the body found behind a Highland Avenue business is their loved one.
Police reported Wednesday the results of forensic tests have shown the man found was Clyde Chandler, 42.
“The Department of Forensic Sciences positively identified the body to be Mr. Chandler,” Lt. David Evans said. “We were about 99 percent sure, but we didn’t want to release anything before we were absolutely sure.”
. . .
The clothes Chandler was wearing - black and white stripped shirt, khaki shorts and blue and white K-Swiss shoes — gave police an early indication of the identity.
Now police are awaiting the cause of death from forensics. Authorities said they did not know when the results would be available.
