Natasha Cournoyer, 37, hasn’t been seen since her image was last picked up on surveillance footage outside the office building about 8 p.m. at Place Laval, where she works in the communications department for Corrections Canada. According to Laval police, she was walking toward her car. Cameras don’t go beyond the building’s perimeter to the lot where Cournoyer’s charcoal Mazda6 was parked.<snipped>

Laval police set up a second command post Tuesday morning to help in their search for Natasha Cournoyer, the 37-year-old communications worker for Corrections Canada who has been missing since Thursday about 8 p.m.

The second mobile command post will start at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Loblaws at de la Concorde Blvd. and Highway 19, Laval police Constable Natalie Lorrain said. The reason for choosing this location is that the signal from Cournoyer’s cellphone was detected by a cell tower there on Friday morning, the day after she went missing, Lorrain said.

Police said they would continue their command post at Place Laval, about three kilometres away, where Cournoyer works and where she was last seen.<snipped>

I hope she is found safe. I wonder if she was targeted by someone because of her job?

“She must have been abducted,” Trottier said. “That’s the only scenario I can imagine, because if it were anything else, she would have at least called her mother.”

“We don’t want to know who these people are, but they have a chance now to correct the mistake they made and free her,” Trottier said.

It always makes me wonder when a close one automatically assumes there has been a kidnapping of an adult. Too early to tell right now, but...

That is a fair distance and right beside the St. Lawrence river.

Major crimes investigators believe a woman's body found Tuesday next to a dirt road in Pointe aux Trembles is that of Natasha Cournoyer, a Laval resident who disappeared Thursday, three police sources familiar with the investigation said yesterday.

As of early this morning, investigators had not been able to confirm the victim's identity. Laval police, who are probing Cournoyer's disappearance, were called in to assist.

One person who could help identify Cournoyer, 37, was brought to the scene shortly after the body was discovered, just before noon yesterday.

:(
Hope there is lots of evidence to assist police.

According to this article her boyfriend has confirmed her death. It is in french, here is a Babel Fish translation:

The spouse of Natasha Cournoyer, Michel Trottier, confirms the death of the latter, and this, even if the authorities did not do it yet. In a letter published on his Facebook page, Mr. Trottier affirms this morning that its joint died. “I try to include/understand how one could remove you what we have of so invaluable, that is to say the life. (...) To take the life of such a pretty woman with so much of violence, which cowardice, which wretched way to live”, written Mr. Trottier.

In the same article:
Michel Trottier was scheduled to undergo a polygraph test on Wednesday but because of his (emotional) state the test was postponed.

Police:
We are waiting for the autopsy results.

<snip> The Quebec coroner's office has confirmed that the body discovered yesterday in a wooded area of Pointe Aux Trembles is that of Natasha Cournoyer.

Despite knowing Cournoyer was very likely a homicide victim the Laval police organized the search of a very broad area in Laval. The search in Laval on Wednesday was based on knowledge that Cournoyer’s cell phone had been receiving calls on Friday, a day after she was last seen alive as she left an office building where she worked.

“What we know is that her family tried to contact her from Thursday night to Friday until the phone’s battery went dead. On Friday the calls from her family went through the same (celullar phone) tower,” Laval police Constable Natalie Lorrain said.

“Her cell phone wasn’t used but it received calls. That is why we are concentrating on this area, either to find that cell phone or any other object that might have been hers.”

The tower transmits calls to cell phones in an area bordered by Highway 19, Des Laurentides Blvd., the Des Prairies River, and De la Concorde Blvd. E.

Several members of an intervation team who work inside federal penitentiaries and other employees with Correctional Service of Canada assisted in a search of the area. They could be seen leaving a command post, set up in the parking lot of a Loblaws, on De la Concorde Blvd. E., in groups of four after receiving an assigned area to search.

Other people continued to hand out fliers about Cournoyer’s disappearance.

A police source said they were also searching for a pair of shoes Cournoyer might have been wearing when she disappeared. Cournoyer’s body was barefooted when it was discovered in thick bushes underneath a hydro power line tower next to a dirt road that leads to the shore of the St. Lawrence River.

Cournoyer began working for Correctional Service of Canada in May. She was part of its communications department, contributed to an internal journal for employees and edited speeches.

“She did go to certain penitentiaries to arrange parties or ceremonies for staff who were leaving or retiring. She might have crossed an inmate in a corridor but she no reason, as part of her job, to interact with an inmate. Her responsibilities had nothing to do with when an inmate would get released,” Lorrain said.

Prayers to her family. Rest in peace Natasha.

I wonder how many times the phone was called Thursday night, and if it pinged off different towers?

Six days after Natasha Cournoyer vanished after work while heading out to her car, police identified her Wednesday as the victim of a homicide.
Montreal police confirmed that a body found the previous day in a wooded area by the St. Lawrence River was the missing 37-year-old.

Investigators informed her family Wednesday afternoon after receiving confirmation of the identity from the coroners' office. An autopsy had yet to be completed.

"It's going to be completed tomorrow," said Const. Olivier Lapointe. "Then we'll know things we don't know yet. About what is cause of death, was there a weapon used or only physical restraint."

Lapointe said the body was clothed and did not appear to be in an advanced state of decomposition.

Cournoyer's on-again, off-again boyfriend Michel Trottier told media earlier this week that he would submit to a polygraph test. But Lapointe said police have made no such request.

Authorities scoured the parking lot (where the victim worked) and surrounding wooded area over the weekend and into Monday, and a police command post was erected in the parking lot where she vanished.

The lot isn't entirely covered by video surveillance, but police said the entrances and exits are. They said they would examine the tape to see what cars left the parking lot that night.
