CA - Raymond Quintero Rodriguez, 65, shot to death, Ventura, 9 Oct 2009

    (snip)
CHP officers stopped a pickup truck about 2 a.m. for a traffic violation at Camarillo Springs Road and Adohr Lane in Camarillo, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Frank O’Hanlon. A woman jumped from the truck’s cab and the driver sped off.
The woman told officers the driver had kidnapped her and had shot her husband, dumping him somewhere along Pacific Coast Highway.

Authorities this morning were searching along the Pacific Coast Highway between Oxnard and Malibu after a woman reported a man was shot and pushed from a car last night.
The report came after an early morning vehicle pursuit by the California Highway Patrol that resulted in the arrest of an Oxnard man.
“We are operating on the possibility that it could have happened anywhere between Oxnard and Malibu,” said Ventura County sheriff’s Detective Eric Buschow from a command center set up at Sycamore Canyon this morning.
The woman, who jumped out of the truck after the CHP stopped the vehicle, told authorities she and her husband were in the vehicle when the suspect shot him and pushed him out of the car and over the side of the PCH, sheriff’s Capt. Frank O’Hanlon said.

The woman told officers that Tamayo-Flores shot another man whom they were with earlier in the night and dumped his body along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

"We did find evidence in the truck that corroborates what she said," Bushow told KTLA.

Sheriff's helipcopters and deputies have been scanning miles of PCH coastline but have not yet found a body.

I wonder what the traffic violation was? I also wonder if these people knew each other to begin with?

IIRC, he ran a stop sign. The thought occured to me that claiming to be kidnapped could be a way of distancing your involvement. But I'm a suspicious person.

Buschow declined to comment on the evidence or the relationship among the men and woman but said all three were in the truck "consensually" when the night began. Another law enforcement official previously said the woman and the gunshot victim were married.
Because the woman could not pinpoint where the victim was dumped, deputies from Los Angeles and Ventura counties initially searched from Malibu to Oxnard. After backtracking with the woman along the coast, officers were able to narrow the search to a five-mile stretch between the county line and Mugu Rock.

Are they checking the hospitals in those areas for John Does? I hope a good samaritan found the husband and took him to the nearest hospital. Did the husband have his ID on him when pushed out the car?
..i wonder if it was a case of a love triangle type thing? where the shooter was jealous of the woman's husband?

A man reportedly shot to death and dumped over the side of the Pacific Coast Highway was found Saturday north of Ventura — miles from where investigators had been scouring the coastline.
The body of Raymond Quintero Rodriguez, 65, was found by a passer-by about 2:20 p.m. in rocks near the surf between Solimar and Faria beaches, sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Murray said.

I wonder if the kidnapping was news to the guy that ran, since it began as a consensual trip?

In 2014, Maximo Tamayo-Flores was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. He recently filed an appeal and the ruling affirmed the original decision.

    http://www.courts.ca.gov/opinions/nonpub/B261414.PDF

Maximo Tamayo-Flores appeals judgment after conviction by jury of first degree murder and second degree robbery of Ramon Quintero; making criminal threats to Sara Cruz and kidnapping her; evading an officer with willful disregard for safety; and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The jury found true the special circumstance that he murdered Quintero while engaged in commission or attempted commission of a robbery. It also found true allegations that he personally discharged a firearm causing great bodily injury or death in the crimes against Quintero and personally used a firearm in the crimes against Cruz. The trial court sentenced him to life without the possibility of parole, plus 25 years to life, for the murder with use of a firearm. It sentenced him to a consecutive aggregate determinate term of 22 years 8 months for the crimes against Cruz and evading the officer. It imposed but stayed upper term sentences for the robbery and the possession of a firearm, pursuant to section 654.

Tamayo-Flores contends the prosecutor discriminated against male jurors; there was insufficient evidence of robbery; his prior narcotics convictions were irrelevant and unduly prejudicial; the court unfairly limited his cross-examination of Cruz; the court should have given an accomplice instruction concerning Cruz; and the prosecutor committed misconduct in closing argument by overstating the evidence about “blood DNA,” footprints, and tire prints.

    We affirm.
