Fla. to seek death for 4 accused of killing couple

Prosecutors said Monday they will seek the death penalty for four of eight people charged in the killings of a Panhandle couple known for adopting children with autism, Down syndrome and other special needs.
In a brief statement, State Attorney Bill Eddins said he had filed notices to seek death for the accused ring leader, 35-year-old Leonard Patrick Gonzalez Jr.; 28-year-old Donnie Ray Stallworth; 41-year-old Wayne Thomas Coldiron; and 19-year-old Frederick Lee Thornton Jr.

Two missing from the list are Sumner and Gonzalez Sr. I wonder why? Perhaps because they cooperated?

The four have pleaded not guilty to first degree murder. Three others who have also been charged with first degree murder Leonard Gonzalez Sr., Gary Sumner and Rakeem Florence (a minor)- but state attorney will not seek the death penalty against them. Lenny Gonzalez (father of Patrick) and Sumner allegedly drove the getaway vehicles.

Possibly because Gonzalez, Sr. did cooperate. If memory serves me correctly, at the very beginning Eddins even asked for a reduction (at the time there was a bond on Gonzalez) when Gonzalez first came before the judge. Quite unusual request from a state's attorney to a judge. The judge went the opposite direction. Sumner, I'm not sure.
