MI - Brent VandenBerg, 35, Fremont, 9 Sept 2009
15 Oct 09
Brent VandenBerg, 35, was reported missing by his mother, Susan, on Sept. 9.
She is the last person to have seen him, which was Aug. 19, when police say VandenBerg came to her house for dinner and stayed the night. He called her at her workplace the next day to tell her that he didn't feel like living anymore.
VandenBerg is 6'3" tall, weighs 220 pounds, has brown eyes and extremely short hair or a completely shaved head. The left side of his head has excessive scarring from a previous accident. Police say he is soft-spoken, friendly and an extremely private person. He is a survivalist of sorts, able to survive on his own in the wilderness for lengthy periods of time.
Police also say VandenBerg has a history of alcohol abuse and has disappeared for days at a time in the past; however, nothing even close to this length of time.

VandenBerg has a history of alcohol abuse and suffered from “bouts of depression,” Deur said. He recently broke off an engagement, which may have added to depression, Deur said.
VandenBerg is described as an “extremely private” person who can “fend for himself” when living outdoors “in the wild,” Deur said.
“He’s an electrician, he’s intelligent and he’s never really caused us much problem at all,” the chief said. “Pretty much everyone in the community knows him and would like to know that he’s OK.”

FREMONT, Mich. (WZZM) - Fremont Police say a man walking his dog found a body in a remote ravine within the city Tuesday afternoon.
Police say it was found in a wooded area southwest of Main Street and Stone Street on the city's west side.
Police chief Phil Deur says the body has significant decomposition, a sign it had been there for some time. He says the body is in such bad shape, he cannot tell if there if it was a man or a woman.
