MT. AIRY, N.C. -- Four people have been killed in a shooting in Mt. Airy, police confirmed Sunday.

The shooting happened on Worth Street Sunday at about 2:30 p.m.

Surry County emergency officials said two of the victims died at the scene and two more died at Northern Surry County Hospital.

I am sitting here waiting on any information. The news hasnt released much so far, This is such a picture postcard town, I cant believe this. People would have been walking the sidewalks today all over downtown..

We spent a couple of days in Mt. Airy, isn't it the "Mayberry" of "Andy Griffith" fame?

I'm in a different media market, so nothing new to update here. This is so sad ~ it is a nice, quiet town. :(
 
I just checked for any updates and couldn't find anything except what was basically in the initial reports. Was there a news conference? :waitasec:
 
I don't have a link, but I saw on the news this morning that he was arrested in VA. I'll go look now.

Two brothers, Javier Manuel Martinez, and Juan Manuel Martinez were shot and killed in front of a tv store at Worth and Rockfords Streets. Their cousin, Alfonso Martinez-Jimenez and an acquaintance, Marcos Oviedo-Aguilar were also shot and killed.

Officers say something transpired in the parking lot of the business and one person shot all four victims with a high powered assault rifle.

A man who admitted to shooting and killing four people with a high-powered rifle in November 2009 has been sentenced to three life prison terms without parole.

The Mount Airy News reports 30-year-old Marcos Chavez Gonzalez pleaded guilty Monday to four counts of first-degree murder.
