This is a case that has stayed in my mind for a long time. I am sure this man, and his multiple tattoos has been discussed on this site (I've read the threads) but, I cannot seem to locate any mention of him through site searches. The John was found behind a greyhound bus station on June 10, 2005, here is a site you can visit to view the details/photos of the deceased.

I have been looking for information about his eye color. Does anyone know? If his eyes are brown then I believe I may have found a possible match. I thought about people who are homeless or break ties with their families and just leave town never to be heard from again. Maybe this John Doe is one of those people? Here is information on the possible match - John Sanchez Salazar, went missing on 11/7/2004 from Abilene, Texas and is wanted. There are seven felony warrants for his arrest. What do you guys think?

Hi Chan,
I would not rule anyone out on photo alone, but this one seems off to me. If you enhance the photo you can see a distinct tattoo from shoulder to shoulder of salazar that appears to be barbed wire. Also, enhancement shows different bone structure. The forehead and eyebrows are different. I don't think this is a match. Keep looking! At first glance it looked very possible.Maybe otherw will weigh in here as well.

Thanks for taking the time to respond Mensch. I will continue looking, and of course, I welcome anyone's comments. Getting feedback, and other people's :twocents: allows me to regroup, and consider different tactics when searching. Also, when looking for a person, a searcher can come upon a possible ID, and another person's perspective is needed to call to attention items that may have been missed, an example being, those little faded barbed wire patterns..

I agree with you toally Chan. The 'feedback' is very important for perspective. I am also very interested in how people come to the conclusion their case is a match, such as what they considered in making the comparison. Hang in there and keep up the fight! Sometimes I think we, the volunteers are all the missing have and that is enough for me to keep looking when one is ruled out as a match.

Does it look like a mugshot for John Sanchez Salazar on the Abilene Crime stoppers site? If he has seven felony warrants for his arrest it might not be the first time he got in trouble with the police. If so, LE would presumably have his fingerprints on file and the UID's Namus page says his fingerprints are available at the North Charleston Police Department. Would they have been checked against LE fingerprint databases probably making this a rule out by fingerprints or is it possible that they're just sitting there on a card in some long since forgotten evidence box and not been bothered with?

I don't think this is a match.

Salazar was 2" shorter and 26 lbs heavier than the UID. the fingerprints probably would have matched and Salazar was noted to have had 4 tattoos one of which was on his chest. there is no reference to the UID having a chest tattoo.

Identified, harry earl carroll

The body has been identified, as we now get an error message when trying to view the page.

Which Harry Earl Carroll? I found one on GA's most wanted list, but no tattoos were mentioned.

Also, the UID had "no fingerprints on file", so he wouldn't have been a fugitive...

Yes, a source would be helpful. :)

ETA: I have too many windows open at one time. This fella doesn't have a namus page. The error message is from ANOTHER case I'm looking at. Lol...Maybe I should hang it up for the night...

The Harry Earl Carroll (fugitive from Georgia) is clearly the same guy. I have the postmortem photo saved, and this definitely looks like a slightly younger, longer haired version of our John Doe.

Right on. I trust your eye. :) I was unable to find any postmortem photos to compare. When I requested a source I was hoping for some sort of newspaper article or press release. Not that I don't believe you. I was just curious as to how Beamie found out.

I don't know about this. the GA Dept of Correction had no tattoos listed for Carroll and his fingerprints had to be on file with them. he is not showing up in the Soc Sec Death Index nor have they updated the state's website to show him as deceased - he is still a fugitive as far as GA is concerned.

that more than anything else concerns me. if they got the fingerprints from the GA DOC then you'd think someone in SC law enforcement would tell GA, we got your man.

No, you were right the first time, I think this UID used to be Namus #8381 and it's an error page now.

DN also lists him as identified.

HC is still here.
How long ago was John Doe identified? Maybe they didn't get around to updating the site yet?

Oh hey, I totally forgot about this.

I was following his case on namus, and I got the email saying he was identified.
But when you try to access the page, you get an error.

This is what you do: You google the case number and namus
"2005400084 namus" and if you scroll down you'll see a spanish/mexican version of namus. And there's the name

https://identifyus.org/es/cases/8381

Voila!

on further reflection it is discomforting to think that a law enforcement agency, in this case Charleston, could not match fingerprints to one of Georgia's most wanted men. not sure which side dropped that ball - GA or SC - but it is frightening.

Maybe someone should let GA know their guy has been found deceased?
