VA - Mother recounts attempted abduction of four-year-old son

I didn't see this anywhere. This is local for me. It's a little scary, I read here all day about crimes against children but haven't experienced anything local.

PORTSMOUTH -- "The teller asked me a question, and I turned back around, and he was walking off with my son," the mother says, recounting her trip to the Woodforest National Bank branch located inside Walmart on Frederick Boulevard. It was late Wednesday morning when a stranger lured her four-year-old away from her.

Poor lady. bet she never lets go of his hand anywhere again.

Walmart needs to take lessons from target, and invest in better cameras!

This is local for me too. Even with the bad camera this man should be easily identified. That is if someone is willing to give him up. Hopefully they will.

I see so many children around the holidays not really being watched. Parents are tired, the kids are tired and there's so many things to distract the parents and the children. I'm not saying this lady wasn't watching her child...I'm glad she was able to catch up with this creep before he got her son out of the store.

They haven't released his name yet, but the suspect has been apprehended.

WOW, how frightening! I am sooo glad she turned around in time to see what was going on. It sounds like she is beating herself up a little, but her son was standing right beside her, not running around. That POS is awfully brave to do something like that to a child so close to his mother. Hell, if it is anything like my Walmart, he would have had NO problem snatching a kid that was running around unattended. Unfortunately, I see it so much.

Looks like this might be the time for her to talk to her son about "Strangers", if she hasn't already.

Thank God she turned around. And thank God he was apprehended. I wonder how many other children he actually made off with in the area before. Let's face it, it's probably not the first time he's tried/succeeded.

Does anyone know the postal code for that wallmart?

I would like to cross check the man's description with the state sex offender registry.

Never mind even entering the zip code, there are pages of wanted sex offenders in Virginia, wanted/absconded. Unbelievable.

I feel so bad for the mom. We try to hard to keep a sharp eye on our kids. She is feeling so guilty, but at least she keeps a close enough eye to see when her child is no longer at her side. I am glad the suspect was caught. Still so scary and every parents worst nightmare.
