PHOENIX -- A man was stabbed to death and his wife and daughter were injured when the girl's ex-boyfriend attacked with a knife on Sunday, Phoenix police said.

Officers got a call about a woman screaming and arrived in the 8400 block of West Mackenzie Drive at about 10 p.m. to find Adolfo Leyva, 42, Dora Leyva, 42, and their 17-year-old daughter, with stab wounds.

The father and mother were taken to a local hospital, where Adolfo Leyva died. Dora Leyva had serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said. The teen had facial injuries.

Police said the estranged boyfriend, Jaime Arturo Olivas, 18, had arrived at the home and knocked on the girl's window to talk about their break-up. The girl went out to talk to him and he assaulted her, police said.

The father was awakened by the noise and went out to help his daughter, police said. He was stabbed several times. The mother also tried to stop the fighting and was stabbed, police said.

That's a tragic story, Texas Mist. I hope that young lady knows how her parents cherish her. Her Daddy gave his life for her. Hopefully, the girl and her Momma can cling together and get through this. She was a smart girl to have broken off with this monster. Notice he stabbed her face. Awful. Mr. Leyva gave his daughter the gift of life. I hope she holds that gift precious.

Mr. Leyva, you are a hero in my eyes. Rest in peace, you saved your daughters life. Thank God that she still has her mother and they can cling to each to get through this tragedy.

This is horrible, it seems like we hear more and more cases of these young people committing horrendous acts. I'm not sure if it's due to population growth, desensitization of people, or what. Regardless, it's horrible.

He probably had abused her before this. And when she left him, he wanted at her badly enough that he would kill anyone who tried to stop him. DV in teens happens and happens more often than many people realize.

Abuse in dating relationships is common among teens. In the United States, 33% of teens reporting some kind of abuse and 12% reporting physical abuse.16

Teen dating abuse is like domestic violence in adults in that it also is a pattern of abusive behavior used to control another person. Teen dating abuse can include emotional or mental abuse, sexual abuse, and physical abuse.

For teens, relationship abuse often takes the form of extreme possessiveness and jealousy. Abusers try to manipulate their dating partners by making all the decisions, putting them down in front of friends, threatening to kill themselves, stalking them, or forcing them to have sex.

we affirm Olivas’ convictions and sentences for one
count of second degree murder, a class 1 dangerous felony, and
one count of attempted second degree murder, a class 2 dangerous
This is from an appeal document. I'm still looking for the trial and sentencing info
