Authorities say they suspect foul play in the disappearance of a 20-year-old South Carolina man whose friends and family say hasn't been seen in more than two weeks.

Berkeley County deputies told multiple media outlets that Larry Cook was last seen on Dec. 16 in Goose Creek.

Authorities say an acquaintance was found with Cook's car two days later in Tallahassee, Fla.

Investigators call him a person of interest, but say he has not been charged in the case.

Deputies won't specify why they think Cook was the victim of foul play.

A 20-year-old Summerville man whose partially decomposed body was found Sunday in Lincolnville was shot to death, authorities said Monday.

Charleston County Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin identified the victim as Larry Jerome Cook, 20, of Miles Jamison Road.

The coroner's office declined to release any other information because the investigation into Cook's death is ongoing, Martin said.

Cook last was seen alive in the early morning hours of Dec. 16 in the Red Bank Road area of Goose Creek, said Dan Moon, public information officer for the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.

On Dec. 18, Cook's car and an acquaintance were located in Tallahassee, Fla. Both the car and the acquaintance were returned to South Carolina, Moon said. The acquaintance was not charged in the case but he was a "person of interest," Moon said. He was being held in Charleston County jail on unrelated charges.

Evidence found in Cook's car led investigators to suspect foul play, Moon said. He would not elaborate.

The investigation into Cook's slaying spans several jurisdictions. He lived in Dorchester County but was last seen in Berkeley County. His body was found in Charleston County.

Investigators from sheriff's offices in all three counties held a joint meeting Monday and decided the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office would handle news inquiries.
