    MO - Sherry Brown, 57, Wildwood, 18 Nov 2009 - Schizophrenic

Local family searches for schizophrenic sister

For the last decade or so, Sherry Brown got a special teddy bear for Christmas. She liked the stuffed animals because they were so soft, said her brother, Jeff Brown.

"I think it was the little girl in her," he said.

The bears were comforting to a 57-year-old woman who spent large parts of her adult life in and out of psychiatric hospitals. Sherry Brown is schizophrenic. She has multiple-personality disorder, her brother said.

And for the first time in her troubled life, her family has no idea where she is.

After dinner on Nov. 18, she drove away from another brother's home in Wildwood. She left about 9:30 that night to drive back to her apartment in Maryland Heights. Hours earlier, she'd been released from CenterPointe, a mental health center in St. Charles, after a six-week stay prompted by a spate of irrational behavior that didn't fit with the relatively stable life she'd carved out for herself.

Police found her car the next day in a drainage ditch at Page Avenue and Lackland Road. Jeff Brown said his sister had turned west on Page when she should have gone east to get to her apartment.

Dozens of volunteers spent Saturday morning passing out fliers downtown and in the Soulard neighborhood looking for people who might have seen Sherry Brown, a mentally ill Maryland Heights woman who has been missing since Nov. 18.

Jeff Brown, a brother of the missing woman, said two people in the Soulard neighborhood told him they might have seen his sister in the area about 10 days ago. He said that was the only lead the family had. They hope to learn whether Sherry Brown had been there and if she still might be in that neighborhood.

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI - FOX2now.com) - Investigators in Maryland Heights say a body pulled from a creek Thursday has been positively identified. They say the remains belong to Sherry Brown, a local woman who had been missing since November. Two teens found the body while walking along the bank of Fee Fee Creek near James Christopher Drive. Friday morning, the St. Louis County coroner positively identified the body.

There were no obvious signs of trauma to Brown. The preliminary cause of death has been ruled a drowning.

Prayers to her family. Rest in peace Sherry.
