The man charged with Tuesday's fatal shooting of a Utah sheriff's deputy had just sold drugs to a brother of the slain officer on a remote desert road, according to court papers and a family member.

Roberto Miramontes Roman was charged about 10 hours after the shooting with capital murder and tampering with evidence. A manhunt led authorities to a west Salt Lake City neighborhood, where police believe they saw him run from a house and disappear.

Roman, 37, is accused of leaving Deputy Josie Greathouse Fox dead from a gunshot wound after a traffic stop near Delta, about 130 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. If caught and convicted on the murder charge, Roman could face the death penalty.

Roman had just sold drugs to Ryan Greathouse, according to court papers. Ryan Greathouse is the deputy's brother, their mother told The Associated Press late Tuesday.

So sad...another officer down.

I hope they get the coward that shot him.

So this was a female officer that was shot :(. I will be making sure all my door are locked up tight and vehicles as I am not far from Utah and close to the Interstate.
I certainly hope they can track him down this is just horrible.

Prayers go out to her husband, children and family....

O/T sorta --

There was a police dog killed in the line of duty in UT, too. He literally gave his life for other officers. :(

After all the recent LEO shootings, I am more humbled by the work they do for us.

2 Men Arrested in Sheriff Deputy Murder

Two men wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Millard County sheriff's deputy were arrested in Beaver County Wednesday morning.

Beaver County Sheriff Cameron Noel tells KSL the accused shooter, Roberto Roman, and a person of interest, Ruben Chavez, were found in a shed north of Beaver around 8 a.m.

The sheriff's office received a tip early Wednesday morning. Noel said, "They went out to get some things and noticed that there were, that the door was ajar, and they looked inside and saw two people in there laying down, and then they immediately called us."

My condolences to Deputy Fox's family. May this Officer of the law rest in peace.

This article is a good summation of the prosecution's opening:

Roberto Roman is on trial right now in Spanish Fork. I sat in the courtroom and listened to the opening by the prosecution (the defense reserved their right to an opening). I thought the prosecuting attorney did a great job. His summary was jaw dropping. I couldn't wait to hear the defense; only to find that they would wait to offer their "explanation" for another day.

Here is an article about the second day of trial:

The defense wants to discredit his confession, but let me assure you: They have fingerprints on the gun, he lead them to the gun, the bollistics match the AK47 bullets that killed Sheriff Josie, and they have his license plate and car that was called in by Sheriff Josie just before she was killed.

It galls me that this is trying to get off! His family was there supporting him and told the local media that he is not guilty and that the truth would come out in the trial. :banghead:
