(The Log Cabin Democrat has a policy not to name juveniles arrested or charged with crimes. In this case, the identity of the juvenile in question had been widely publicized for a number of days due to the nature of her disappearance from her home.)
Ashleigh Nikohl Hendrix, a Conway teen who has been missing since Jan. 14, has been found alive.
According to Conway Police Department public information officer Chris Harris, Hendrix, 16, was found Thursday night — three weeks to the day since she went missing — at 31 East Republican Road a few miles north of Greenbrier.
Harris said that deputies were called to a welfare check after an anonymous tip came in at about 9:40 p.m. Thursday that a man had drugs and an underage girl in his home.
Maj. Andy Shock of the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office said that upon arrival deputies saw a man later identified as 34-year-old Dustin Wayne Burt of 31 East Republican Road, but this man wouldn’t initially open the door.
Deputies continued to demand entrance, Shock said, and Burt did open the door, allowing Deputies inside where they found Hendrix.
Burt was arrested for an Arkansas Board of Parole warrant and for failure to pay child support. Hendrix was also arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a weapon after two suspected methamphetamine smoking devices and a knife that she said was for “self defense” were found in her purse. As of Friday morning she was being held at the Faulkner County Juvenile Detention Center.
Dozens of flyers were posted on the doors of local businesses in the days after Hendrix’s disappearance. Harris said that CPD investigators received dozens of anonymous tips, several indicating that Hendrix had traveled to Kentucky and others that she was trying to get to Mexico. Investigators followed up on these tips, contacting Kentucky State Police and checking into each of the numerous reports that Hendrix had been seen at various locations in and around Conway.
“Our detectives simply did an outstanding job,” Harris said.
