Kristi Suzanne Krebs

Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance Missing Since: August 9, 1993 from Fort Bragg, California

Classification: Endangered Missing

Date Of Birth: December 29, 1970

Age: 22 years old

Height and Weight: 5'2, 140 pounds

Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian female. Brown hair, blue eyes. Krebs's right thumb is deformed; it is thick at the knuckle and the tip of her thumb curves inward. She has several large moles on her neck below her right cheek. Krebs's ears are pierced. She speaks with a slight lisp. Krebs's nickname is Kris.

Clothing/Jewelry Description: A royal blue shirt with Round Table Pizza imprinted on the left front left side and jeans.

Medical Conditions: Krebs may have been disoriented due to possible emotional difficulties at the time of her 1993 disappearance.

Details of Disappearance Krebs departed from place of employment, Round Table Pizza, on August 9, 1993 in Fort Bragg, California. She never arrived at her family's residence and has not been heard from again. Krebs's red Toyota Tercel was discovered abandoned in a shallow creek in MacKerricher State Park shortly after her disappearance. Her wallet, driver's license, bra and panties were found inside her car, but there was no sign of her at the scene. Krebs's car stereo was missing from her vehicle at the time of its discovery. A woman matching Krebs's description was seen hitchhiking along Highway 20 out of Fort Bragg shortly after her disappearance. Authorities have been unable to confirm if the individual was Krebs. Krebs had been receiving medical treatment at the time of her disappearance for emotional difficulties. She experienced an eerily similar incident involving her car becoming stuck in an area near her home in May 1990, three years prior to her disappearance. That previous situation apparently served as the catalyst for a psychotic breakdown Krebs experienced. She was hospitalized multiple times over the next six months and was under medical supervision. Her therapists advised her to go back to work, but only part time. Krebs did well, and she increased her work hours at Round Table Pizza and took a second job at a fast food restaurant. She was working ten or twelve hours a day as a result. It is possible that Krebs overloaded herself with stress and became disoriented when her vehicle became trapped the night she vanished.

Krebs had wandered away from her car during the previous incident and was discovered by passersby shortly after leaving the scene. She was disoriented and required medical attention at the time. It is possible that similar circumstances occurred when her vehicle became trapped prior to her disappearance.

A driver told authorities that she picked up a hitchhiker who matched Krebs's description later in August 1993. The driver said that she met the hitchhiker in Salt Lake City, Utah and dropped her off at a McDonald's restaurant in Park City, Utah. The driver said that her passenger was in a state of euphoria at the time. Authorities are not certain if the unidentified woman was Krebs, but it is possible that she is hitchhiking in Utah, California, Nevada and Texas. Foul play is possible in her case.

Bump

Kristi has been missing 17 years today. Come home soon.

Saw this story on Unsolved Mysteries yesterday. I wonder what happened to this girl??

Fort Bragg parents use technology to look for missing daughter

In the months after their 22-year-old daughter disappeared in 1993, Fort Bragg residents Bob and Susan Krebs distributed thousands of fliers with her photo around the state in the hope someone had seen her.

Now, after 18 years, technology offers new ways of getting out word that they're still looking.

:bump:

Thinking of Kristi and her family today. :beats:

saw this story on a unsolved re run this am what intrigues me the most is there were sightings and now there are none.

could she have meet with foul play

is her dna or dental records in the national system

in 1993 cellphones were those big awful flip phones with hardly any service areas. pay phones were still the norm

why utah why texas why didnt one of those people who gave her a ride take her to the hospital? the police guy and the women in utah said she looked like she had some issues

she could have meet with foul play

I too saw this on Unsolved Mysteries this morning. Sadly, I think she's dead. I think she's not far from where her car was found. Or she met an unsavory person.

there are a few cases i follow on ws and the very first case i became interested in her face would haunt me ( like when i first saw it i had this feeling she was no longer alive) and with unsolved even when it was on air years ago and showing regular episodes and not reruns i would get freaked out about watching it but today seeing her story and her photo i got none of those feelings.

she could still be alive somewhere in a institution where they dont know who she really is and they gave her a new name. she could have made a new life for herself elsewhere and is happy.

its rare but if you go on the doe network there are solved cases where it lists the person has been found alive.

as far as kristi there is not much listed online. i know in the episode the showed dogs searching the area but nothing i wonder if they picked up her scent and where it dropped off at. i don't remember them mentioning if the dogs picked up anything.

California is huge i have been there before you can be in one town/city doing the whole touristy thing and then want to visit another place thats like 10 hours by car thus needing to take the plane

according to a map fort bragg is located in upper california past scramento

its about 13 hours and five minutes to park city utah from fort bragg and about 8 hours into Nevada

i wish there was more info on her i know on the um web board there was someone who found a facebook page with a women of the same name her smile kinda looks the same but thats about it

a few things that stood out to me when they found her car they said speaks of blood were found was it dried blood or fresh blood was it kristis?

did she have any siblings? or was she an only child

when did the sightings stop of her?

is le sure those sightings were 100% accurate?

what has been done to check out all mental and pysch wards of hospitals in california utah nevada and texas places where she was seen hitchhiking?

are her parents still alive?

When I was about 10 years of age, I was up late watching television and I came across a program that was broadcasting different missing persons cases. One of the missing people featured was Kristi Krebs. I got this overwhelming feeling that I had seen her before, but had to think hard and remember where I had seen her. Then it hit me, I was at WalMart shopping with my Mom. I would always go by the books and magazines section because I loved to read and I would always pick out a book or magazine. I remember standing there and these two people walked past me. One was a young woman, who looked a lot like Kristi, now I can't say for 100% certainty that it was her, but I know that it sure did look like her.

I remember seeing the young woman with a man, maybe in his early 40's, with long hair and a beard. He had her by the arm and when she looked at me, she quickly looked down, as if she was shying away. I did report this sighting and not too long afterward, I had some contact with Susan, Kristi's Mom. I kept in touch with her until I was about 14 or 15 years of age. I don't have her phone number anymore, I lost it over the years. We did help pass out missing persons flyers and even had Susan contact the WalMart, of the sighting. They had her posted up for about a year and a half and then took it down. Susan had even sent me a few photos of Kristi, that were taken right before she went missing. I haven't talked to Susan in a long time, but I always wonder how she is doing. if I can ever get a hold of her, I would like to find out if there are any new leads and if she even remembers me.

The links on Post # 1 have expired. However, I found five sources that verify the post. It is largely true—certainly true enough it does not need to be rewritten. Discrepancies will be discussed below in a later post, as I dig into old news reports.

The clips below give an unfolding account of the search for Kristi. I have covered other searches for missing persons in Mendocino County, but have never seen one as large as this—48 people, 3 dogs, and aerial surveillance. Over the years, LE has checked out at least four “false alarm” leads. The first was an inquiry into the possibility that Richard Allen Davis was responsible. Ukiah Daily Journal, 16 December 1993: https://www.newspapers.com/image/7666845

Then there was the skeleton in Russian Gulch State Park: UDJ, 28 December 1993: https://www.newspapers.com/image/192095

And the one out on the Sherwood-Fort Bragg Road: UDJ, 20 March 1994: https://www.newspapers.com/image/7834475

And there was the live one up in Piercy: UDJ, 5 May 1994: https://www.newspapers.com/image/7834475

None of them was Kristi Suzanne Krebs.

The search for Kristi has evoked a string of reported sightings of her nationwide. Clips listed above reported her hitchhiking away from Fort Bragg on CA Route 20 shortly after she went missing. Later in August 1993, she caught a ride from Salt Lake City to Park City UT. On 30 June 1994, another report came in. Details below.Ukiah Daily Journal advertisement, 21 August 1994 (subsequently reran on 28 August, 4, 11, and 25 September 1994): https://www.newspapers.com/image/1772424The driver who reported her hitching from Visalia CA to Hanford CA mentioned she talked about “beaches with caves”. There are caves backing the shoreline beaches in the vicinity of Fort Bragg. Santa Cruz (CA) Sentinel, 12 August 1994: https://www.newspapers.com/image/66233024 Unsolved Mysteries aired an episode on Kristi in early 1995, which stirred up a report of Kristi hitchhiking out of Fort Bragg the day after her accident. UDJ, 16 February 1995: https://www.newspapers.com/image/1455149Another report sparked by the show said Kristi was seen in a restaurant in Mississippi. A trucker, his wife, and a waitress had all seen the UM show and recognized Kristi in the booth next to the trucker couple. UDJ, 24 February 1995: https://www.newspapers.com/image/1455756The most recent news mention of Kristi mentions sightings in both North and South Carolina.Anderson Valley Advertiser, 10 February 2012: http://theava.com/archives/14101. Also, the AVA, date unknown (near copy of 10 February 2012 article): http://theava.com/archives/14149

Two major discrepancies have crept into the investigation. One is the description of the clothing she was wearing when she vanished. The other is the actual location of where her car was found.

First, let's take up the question of clothing. Since Kristi left work at Round Table Pizza in work clothing, it was originally believed she disappeared in that.

However, on Doe network: “Authorities think that before she abandoned her car, Kristi changed into a gym outfit that she always carried with her. Her work clothes were found, sopping wet and neatly folded, on the back seat.” And in the 7 January 1994 Ukiah Daily Journal linked above: “Since Krebs's fluorescent pink spandex shorts were missing from her room, along with her shirt with the circular design on the front, her parents felt certain this was their daughter.”

It thus seems pretty certain that Kristi was not wearing her work clothes when she left her car, but her gym clothes instead. However, most sources still erroneously insist on the work clothing.

The second discrepancy—that of the location where her car was found—is a bit more involved. Let's start with a short video. Unlike Unsolved Mysteries, this is raw footage of the stuck cars. Observe well where the red Toyota is stuck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v-=FmEMxtusBtU

Next, let's take a look at this overhead view of MacKerricher State Park:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/M...a0338e8f48e04!8m2!3d39.5155294!4d-123.7769125
Given that MacKerricher State Park lies to the left of Hwy 1 on this view, the immediate reaction is, Where's all that vegetation that was around the stuck red Toyota in the video? And where's the creek bed? You can zoom and ground-view and look around if you like. I believe you will agree that Kristi's car wasn't stuck there. At one time, while LE was tracing Kristi's activities after she left work, they discovered she had driven north to MacKerricher and spoken to a ranger there. Apparently, somehow it was assumed Kristi stuck there, even though she had doubled back south through Fort Bragg to get to the Mendocino Woodlands in Jackson State Forest. That false assumption still plagues some case records that place the stuck Tercel on the beach.

Now let's consider an overhead view of the second location reported for Kristi's stuck auto, near the Mendocino Woodland Camp Association. This intersection is the approximate location:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/M...d7bdbf474c2b4!8m2!3d39.3310719!4d-123.7349409
If you look about, there's plenty of vegetation in sight. Moreover, as this topographic map of the camp shows, there are creeks hidden back in that vegetation: https://www.google.com/search?q=men...UQuavnefNqOEf4bxQZTqyVa&imgrc=i2_1dMrIG82uHM:

According to the Fort Bragg Advocate-News of 14 April 2016:
http://www.advocate-news.com/general-news/20160414/missing-but-not-forgotten Kristi stuck her car on a bridge in the camp. We know better, because we did not see a bridge in the video.
So, we have discovered the approximate location her car was stuck. It was in a remote back road, not a beachfront park with its vacation campers. Her bra, panties, driver's license, and wallet were in the car; the stereo had been stolen, and blood was on the dashboard. Given that she changed clothes, it is nota stretch that she changed into fresh undergarments. However, it is not likely she tore out her own stereo system from the dashboard.

One last detail. The fact that she previously stuck a car in 1990 seems to have helped obscure the location of the 1993 find. Perhaps she stuck her car in MacKerricher in 1990, but it can't be deduced from the evidence.
