Silver Alert issued for missing Oklahoma City man
    FROM STAFF REPORTS The Oklahoman
    Published: February 4, 2010

Officials issued a Silver Alert today for an Oklahoma City man with medical issues.

Ollie Arterberry, 78, has not been seen since he walked way from Grace Living Center, 1913 NE 50, between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today, police said. He suffers from dementia, hallucinations and high blood pressure, according to a news release.

Arterberry is a black man and was wearing a blue jean jacket, plaid shirt, blue jeans and cowboy boots, police said.

He is 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds.

A fellow resident at Grace Living Center told police he saw Arterberry about 12:30 p.m. today at the downtown bus station, and Arterberry said he was trying to go to Laverne in northwestern Oklahoma, Okahoma City police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said.

Authorities ask anyone who sees Arterberry to call 911.

    Ollie Arterberry

Thank you for posting. I am Ollie Arterberry's niece and the family is very worried. However, the news report is wrong. He is not going to Laverne,OK. He is from Vernon, OK which is in the opposite direction about 7 miles from Dustin and 13 miles from Henryetta. Please keep a watch in that direction and pray that he is found safe.

Welcome Denise. I have adjusted the title to reflect that Ollie is from Vernon. Is there something else we can help with?

    What a sweet face.
Did he have Alzheimer's? I just re- read he had Dementia....

Did he have family he wanted to see? He must have missed home.
Sometimes old times want to be where home is....they may not remember the present
but they do remember the past.

The bad part is, that most towns, and city's have changed a lot and are no longer recognizable.
The place he once knew as home can be something different, and then he will be feeling really
    lost and confused.

Body found in Oklahoma City may be subject of Silver Alert

The body of a man found in a vacant house today may be an Oklahoma City man whose disappearance prompted a Silver Alert last week.

Police found the body of an adult male who matched the description of Ollie Arterberry, 78, in the 1900 block of NE 50 at 2:15 p.m., police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said.

The house is on the same block as the Grace Living Center, 1913 NE 50, from where Arterberry walked away.

He didn't have Alzheimers, just dementia. He was aware of things around him the majority of the time and yes, he just wanted to get home to Vernon where he was from. He was my uncle and he will be missed by all.

Would you know if home is looking similar to what he may remember?
Or if it has been built up and looks very different? and he may not recognize it...
(I went back to 2 homes I had known and you can not recognize it at all)
Do you know if the buses have been searched, questioned, do you know if anyone in the town where he was heading recognized him/saw him.

I am so sorry Denise...I hope he will be found.
He has such a sweet face... I Hope he at least knows his name so that he can end up someplace where he can be found.

Denise, I am so sorry to hear the latest.

Strange feeling I got while reading this, was that he knew it was time, and he knew where
he can be alone with the Lord. I guess he did want to go home.
God bless him, may he rest in peace.
and may your family find comfort in the fond memories of him.
