In an emotional hearing in St. George this afternoon, a state Supreme Court justice sentenced Jahaad Chesson, 25, to 20 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for fatally stabbing Anthony Illidge, 54, inside the older man’s apartment in January 2010...

Chesson pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter last month...

Chesson broke into his apartment, looking for valuables to steal. Illidge confronted him, the two struggled, and Chesson stabbed him to death. He then tried to cut up Illidge’s body, Ms. DeOliveira said. "When that failed, he placed him in a bucket, and moved him from his own home, outside to a Dumpster, for the animals to get him," she said. "(His) family couldn’t even have an open casket because of that. They couldn’t even say good-bye."
