Private property near Fieldbrook searched for missing Jerry George

Detectives and deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office spent Wednesday morning searching some private property near Fieldbrook while following a lead in the disappearance of Jerry George, a McKinleyville man last seen in late January.

”We're following up on a tip,” said Sgt. Wayne Hanson of the Sheriff's Office.

George, 29, was last seen Jan. 21 at the home of a friend on Reasor Road in McKinleyville.

About a week later, a search warrant was served on the home, but investigators aren't saying what they found, if anything. About that time officials classified the disappearance as suspicious and the search warrant affidavits were sealed, meaning the documents are inaccessible for public review.

On Wednesday, investigators used all-terrain vehicles to access the wooded private property off Murray Road, about a mile from the Murray Road and Central Avenue intersection.

Just before noon they packed up the ATVs without locating anything.

Authorities said George was reported missing Jan. 22. People at the home he was visiting told investigators that George left to walk home around 11:45 p.m. on Jan. 21.

George is black, 6 feet 3 inches tall, 250 pounds and has gold teeth. A tattoo on his left forearm reads “Hauna” and one on his neck reads “Shanda.”

He was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, a brown jacket and black shoes.

Anyone with information on George is asked to call Detective Cheryl Franco at 268-3644.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a McKinleyville man who was reported missing late last week. Last Friday a woman reported her boyfriend failed to return home. The man, Jerry George, 29, had gone out to friends’ house the night before but never made it home. Friends indicated he left their house on Reasor Road, McKinleyville, at about 11:45 p.m. on Thursday night. Mr. George’s friends told deputies he left on foot and they believed he was going to walk to his residence on Railroad Avenue. Mr. George has not been seen since. Friends and family members indicate it is highly unusually for Mr. George to be out of contact with them for this length of time.

Jerry George is a black male adult, 6’ 3” tall, weighing about 250 pounds. He has a tattoo on his left forearm that reads “Hauna” and one on his neck that reads “Shanda.” He also has gold teeth. George was believed to be wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, a brown jacket, and black shoes.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Jerry George should call Detective Cheryl Franco at (707) 268-3644.

A third suspect in the case of a missing McKinleyville man who is believed to be dead was arrested Saturday after she contacted the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office and made arrangements to turn herself in, officials said Monday.

The Sheriff's Office said Jan David-Devore, 46, of Arcata, was arrested without any problems when investigators, a U.S. marshal and officers with the Arcata Police Department went to her home on the 1600 block of 12th Street in Arcata around 9 a.m.

”Sheriff's detectives had obtained a $500,000 arrest warrant for David-Devore for conspiracy, accessory and the destruction of evidence,” a release states.

David-Devore is the third person arrested in connection to the disappearance and presumed death of Jerry George, who was last seen Jan. 21 in McKinleyville at the Reasor Road home of Jacob Charles Steele. George, 29, was reported missing by his girlfriend the day after he was last seen.

McKinleyville man held to answer for death of Jerry George

A Humboldt County Superior Court judge ruled that Jacob Charles Steele will be held to answer to a charge of murder.

After a three-day preliminary hearing that ended Monday, Judge Christopher Wilson ruled there is sufficient evidence to hold Jacob Steele, 23, of McKinleyville, to stand trial on charges of first degree murder for the death of Jerry George, who went missing over a year ago and is believed dead.

While investigators have not yet found George's body, court records show that they did find evidence of the alleged crime.
