HUNTSVILLE, AL - There are reports of a shooting at UAHuntsville, at the Shelby Center. We understand the campus is in lockdown.

Sources close to the investigation tell WHNT NEWS 19 two people were killed and two are in critical condition. We understand two people are in custody, possibly a woman and her husband. They're not sure if there are other suspects out there. We've also been told all the victims are faculty.

A person inside the library, which is next to the Shelby Center, says he and his co-workers are locked in their building.

The shooting was in the Shelby Center--- a very large building-- each channel reporting different things.
 
Local news stating that the hospital has confirmed that 10 are in route to the hospital --not sure of the injuries but it has been confirmed that 2 are dead.

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- Three people are confirmed dead and two critically injured after reports of a shooting at UAHuntsville, at the Shelby Center, a university spokesman said Friday evening.

Initial reports indicate a shooting happened about 5 p.m. Reports indicate a female suspect is in custody.

Not sure if two are in custody or just one, Local stations state that a woman has been arrested.

Local stations are stating 3 dead. Not sure if the number of 10 injured correct or not. Local stations stating that the hospital has said they are expecting 10- story still developing.

The woman taken in custody is a faculty member. Local stations may be ahead of themselves on number injured. I hope so.

(CNN) -- Three people were killed and one was wounded Friday after a shooting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, said Ray Garner, a spokesman for the university.

A female shooter was in custody, he said.

The incident occurred about 4:15 p.m. in Shelby Hall, which police were still searching, said Trent Willis, a spokesman for the mayor. "We do have some witnesses," he said.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Officials at the University of Alabama's Huntsville campus say three people have been killed and another injured in a campus shooting. University spokesman Ray Garner says a woman is in custody but he could not identify her or any of the victims.

Trent Willis, chief of staff for Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, says there are several other shooting injuries in addition to the four. He doesn't have an exact number.

Sophomore Erin Johnson tells The Huntsville Times a biology faculty meeting was under way when she heard screams coming from the room.

The shooting happened Friday afternoon in the university's Shelby Center, a science building. University police secured the building and students were cleared from it.
 
Authorities said a female faculty member during a Biology faculty meeting learned she would not receive tenure. She then pulled out a gun and started shooting.

Tenure in this case refers to a senior academic's contractual right not to have their position terminated without just cause.

The campus was immediately put on lock-down.

UA-Huntsville spokesman Ray Garner confirmed three people were shot and killed.

Three others were wounded.

Authorities said the shooter is a female member of the UAH staff.

All three of the dead are also staff members.

According to a 2006 profile in the newspaper, Dr. Bishop invented a portable cell growth incubator with her husband, Jim Anderson. Police officials said that Mr. Anderson was being detained, but they did not call him a suspect.
