A Berwyn pediatrician has been indicted on numerous sexual felony counts in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old patient, police said.
Dr. Abdulbari Akhras, 63, of Burr Ridge, was taken into custody Jan. 30 on one count of criminal sexual assault for allegedly engaging in inappropriate conduct with the child at his office at 6920 W. Ogden Ave., police said.
Akhras was released after posting 10 percent of his $100,000 bail.
A Cook County Grand Jury on Tuesday returned an indictment with nine more felony sexual assault charges related to the alleged incident with the child, police said.
He still has patients going to his office!!
Oh, can't be remiss in pointing out the bull***** 4-star rating & "Patients' Choice Award".
Please don't tell me.....another one? This is awful. Oh, my heart just breaks for this victim. It will take so much work for her to regain trust.
Shame on Dr. Akhras....you knew better.
Here we go, AGAIN!
Texas Mist--I'm starting to see this as a new sub-category of abuse, similar to clergy abuse. I wonder if there have been any studies or research into this? I wonder about older survivors of this crime. Can we hear from them, please.
This has to stop. We, as a people, long to trust our doctors...those we trust with touching and healing our bodies.
This is so unsettling.
Women are Angels.
And when someone breaks our wings,
we simply continue to fly... on a broomstick.
We're flexible like that.
I hardly think that every pediatrician that has a middle eastern name is a child molester.
Songline--With all due respect, I really think that statement was hurtful. I have a wonderful neuro with a similar name whom I trust implicitly. I know we all have a visceral reaction when we read these cases but we also know that sex abuse knows no boundaries--gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, profession.
Can you rethink that statement, please, as I think it is a slap in the face of all wonderful and trustworthy men of middle eastern descent. Nothing is gained by making broad or discriminatory statements. Thank you. I always look forward to reading your posts.
I interpreted songline's post to mean that the pervy doc had family write his 4-star reviews, not that all people of a certain race are child molesters.
NEhoo - I found this today -- amazing how these people are still comfortable taking their kids to the pedo-doc....just as amazing as the ones I read about the other day who had no problem taking their kids to martial arts class where owner/instructor is a Level 2 RSO (assault of a child).
At Akhras's office this morning, the waiting room was full of adults and children waiting to see the doctor for treatment. Among them was Besnik Rexhepi, who said he still trusted Akhras with his three daughters, who range in age from 1 to 12 years old.
"I've never been made to feel in any way harmed or uncomfortable by him," he said.
Lesley McMillan, who works at a pizza restaurant next door to Akhras' office, said the doctor once stitched up her head after she was hit with a bottle in the parking lot.
"He's a great doctor. He saved my life," she said.
Asked what she thought about the charges against him, she said, "As far as that goes, I don't know. He's never done anything to me."
Well, there you go, "He's never done anything to me, therefore I guess he could never do anything to anybody, therefore, he must be a nice man". Is that how algebraic equations work? Or is that fuzzy logic?
