Casey Anthony's family home in foreclosure

Casey Anthony's family is facing new legal woes: their east Orange County home is in foreclosure.

New documents filed Monday in Orange Circuit Court show that Bank of America is foreclosing on Casey Anthony's childhood home.

The owners of the house are George and Cindy Anthony, the grandparents of slain toddler Caylee Marie Anthony.

According to the foreclosure filing, the Anthonys had not made a mortgage payment in nine months.

"I don't know really why they have foreclosure because I heard also they went on a trip,” the Anthony's neighbor, Roxanna Mercado, said. Mercado said she was surprised to learn the Anthony’s are so far behind on their mortgage. "You don't have money to pay your home but you have to go on a cruise, that's weird," Mercado said.

Even though they have lived in the house for more than 20 years, Hopespring Drive did not become a household name until summer 2008. After Casey Anthony’s first and subsequent arrests, protesters were at the house day and night.

Neighbors said they paid the price. Mercado said she tried to rent her home, but the name of the street drove tenants away. “The damage is already done,” Mercado said. “It's something that the people always are going to remember right now and it affects the area."

The Anthonys said they plan to do all they can to save their home, if only to preserve the place where Caylee spent her life.

Casey Anthony: What happens if George, Cindy Anthony lose home?

George and Cindy Anthony, the parents of Casey Anthony, could be losing what has been their home since 1986, WFTV-Channel 9 reports.

Bank of America yesterday filed foreclosure papers, WFTV anchor Greg Warmoth said.

Will the home still hold its fascination if the Anthonys no longer live there?

Eyewitness News has learned the Anthonys owe over $115,000, plus interest, and haven’t paid since May of last year. Five months after that last mortgage payment, they went on a cruise.

Previously, Lee Anthony’s lawyer said he moved into his parent’s home to help with mortgage payments, with Cindy on disability from her nursing job and George possibly on unemployment. However, it’s unclear why the $785 per month payment hasn’t been paid for nine months.

The Anthonys say they haven't been able to find work because of the stress of the situation, but they have spent time and energy on a non-profit organization they started in Caylee's honor.

Family Facing Foreclosure

George Anthony said "We're not going anywhere." But he told WESH 2 that the couple has received many supportive calls and text messages since the story has been covered in the local news.

"I've been on interviews and stuff like that and as soon as they see me, it's like, 'You're this guy.' And some, I guess, they don't want to bring me on probably thinking something negative might come out of something and it isn't. I just want to work again," George Anthony said.

"We're working with the bank to save the house," the Anthonys' attorney, Brad Conway, said. "This is the only house Caylee ever lived in and they can't let this thing go."

The process should take between eight months and a year, and the family expects to live in the house the entire time they are working with the bank to pursue a loan modification to fix the problem. According to Conway, this foreclosure proves the couple never had a big-money book or movie deal.

Zenaida Gonzalez, who is suing Casey Anthony for allegedly implicating her in Caylee Anthony’s disappearance and murder, has filed a list of expert witnesses she might call to testify at a defamation trial.

Gonzalez was investigated in connection with the case after detectives found out she had been to the Sawgrass Apartments around the same time Casey says she dropped her daughter Caylee off there.

Casey said the name of the nanny she left Caylee with at the apartments was Zenaida Gonzalez.

A status hearing for the trial is scheduled for May.

Records show that the Anthonys bought the house in 1989 for $90,900. They refinanced the home in 2005 and agreed to pay $121,180 on the home. Court documents show that the lender claims the couple owes about $121,000.

Foreclosure Papers Filed On Anthonys Home

<snipped>
Records show the Anthonys have lived in the home since 1989, but the mortgage they’re accused of foreclosing on was taken out in 2005 for a little more than $121,000. The bank said just under $121,000 is what’s owed to them -- $115,000 in principle and $5,500 in interest.

"They're in terrible shape,” said Brad Conway, the Anthony family’s lawyer. “Cindy is on disability and emotionally can't go back to full time because of everything they've been through and George has tried to get a job but nobody will hire him." Conway said his clients have not been served with the paperwork yet.

News 13 stopped by the department at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that’s in charge of serving these notices. They said it’s usually within a week that the documents would be physically presented to the Anthonys.

Conway said after that, he plans to work up a response and work with the bank so the family doesn't lose their home. He also said this should send a clear message to people that the Anthonys were not making money for TV appearances.

Anthony Family Home In Foreclosure
Bank Of America Files Paperwork With Orange County Court

POSTED: Tuesday, February 23, 2010
UPDATED: 5:54 pm EST February 23, 2010

The Anthonys have lived in the home on Hopespring Drive in the Chickasaw Oaks subdivision since 1989.

Bank of America filed the foreclosure documents in Orange County on Monday. The documents show that no payments have been made on the mortgage since May 2009. The Anthonys owe nearly $121,000 in principal and $6,000 in interest.

Attorney Brad Conway said his clients' granddaughter's death contributed to them losing the house that Casey Anthony called home from the age of 3, where she raised Caylee, and where she was eventually arrested in connection with her daughter's death.

Conway attributed the couple's latest financial problems to the notoriety of the case and the emotional toll caused by their granddaughter's slaying.
