The Remains Location -and the search

The northerly most yellow house is JAG's family's home in Lake Elsinore, the middle one, right above the jumble of icons is his Escondido house, and the southerly most yellow house is his mom's home in Westwood.

The RED exclamation mark in a triangle is the area where Amber's remains were found.

A close in view of where Amber was found in relation to everything with Chelsea this past week.

Pala is in some very rough country. Looking for photos, I found this:

geology tour reminder …
Oceanview Mine in Pala, California
Sunday, December 2, 2007

The geology tour is filling up fast! The Oceanview Mine in the Pala mining district of northern San Diego County is the last operating mine from a region that once had 73 mines, producing beautiful tourmalines (some with “watermelon” colors of green and pink), lavender lepidolite mica, plus beautiful crystals of quartz, morganite, beryl, kunzite, garnet, spodumene, and many other rare gems. You get to screen as many buckets of fresh material from the mine as you like and keep any gems you find!

It is rugged and rocky, with parched, desert scrub and tall mesas that drop straight down to deep canyons. Very few people would have reason to go there, other than locals and casino patrons.

Another snip:

Pala, California is home to a total of 39 mountain summits and peaks...

Dogs had previously tracked Amber to Pala.

"Last summer, dogs from Texas hired by the family appeared to have traced Amber’s scent to the community of Pala, specifically to the Pala library. But no one in Pala remembers having ever seen Amber. Bloodhounds used by the FBI smelled no hint of her in Pala several months later."

I did NOT know that until you put that in the other thread.

So her folks were right on TWO fronts - they had been following JAG AND they got as far as Pala...where she was ultimately found.

Unreal they were SO close with both things.

How far is the Pala library from where she was found?

How far is the Pala library from where she was found?

We don't know exactly where yet.

I'm guessing, due to a news chopper that went overhead about 10 minutes ago now, that we'll hear more at 5.

is there a scanner thread of listeners?

is there a scanner thread of listeners?

She was found yesterday, so I'm not sure they're even still out on, and especially not on the scanner.

I find it ::very:: interesting that the ME hasn't (publicly, though we all know it's her - I mean, her parents have stated they have been told that) because of likely what else they'd have to have revealed in Chelsea's case...yet they publicly stated that the ME confirmed it was Amber.

Obviously in Chelsea's case they were found within days of the incident, and the odds of it having been someone else in that exact place were slim to none, when other things led them to search there for her, and with Amber this is a year later...but I still think it's interesting.

I'm wondering if we'll hear more because of that now with Amber that will give us clues in Chelsea's case.

Yes, I closed it because the search is over. I'll open it again if you'd like to listen.

News at 5 pm

KUSI (9/51):

Acted on a lead, but would not disclose where that came from. More at 6 pm (they were doing just a brief update again)

KFMB 8:

Discovery of remains were at a VERY early hour on Saturday. (Her dad knew while speaking at Kit Carson yesterday they're saying - or that it was her minus confirmation from the ME)

In a "rugged" and "remote" part of Pala.

Her family is thankful to the volunteers who helped them (the family).

Found NORTH of the actual Pala reservation.

They will not comment on the tie to JAG. Took no questions.

Any information on whether JAG is tied to Amber's disappearance would be "inappropriate" to discuss at this time.

Dogs led them to the library ON the reservation.

Authorities said that she was NOT found on the reservation but north of it.

Tomorrow there will be a presser with more details on where she was found.

I have traveled through the area a lot.

Even though it's remote and out of the way - it is seldom without traffic. Either casino - or ag workers. I had a client out there - took forever through the back roads, but if there was a slow truck in front of me, no way could I pass it because of the constant oncoming traffic.

I feel so badly for her parents, they could never get the air time, or the help they needed.

"A" is Escondido, "B" is Pala.

Along I-15, Lake Elsinore is north, Poway is south.

Another interesting thing to note: When traveling north on the 15 freeway between Escondido and Lake Elsinore there is a California Highway Patrol check point and station on the 15 freeway just north of Pala at the San Diego/Riverside county line. That might have a lot to do with why he chose Pala! Doubt he wanted to chance driving through that with Amber in his car!!!

A CHP checkpoint? or do you mean the border checkpoint?
