A utility crew found the skeletal remains of a man in rural Gaston County Tuesday afternoon and police are seeking tips from the public.

The N.C. utility crew called police around 4 p.m. to report the body in the woods near Old Spencer Mountain Road.

The remains appear to be that of a man, according to police. Police have not said how the man died and have not yet classified the case as a homicide. The Gaston Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death.

The man was wearing blue jean pants, a denim jacket, a burgundy dress shirt and black combat boots.

Anyone with information should call Gaston County Police at 704-866-3320 or Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.

What we are doing is just a drop in the ocean.
But if that drop was not in the ocean,
I think the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.

GCPD worked late into the night removing the remains and collecting evidence from the scene.

The body was found in the 3000 block of Old Spencer Mountain Road.

According to police, the remains appear to be a male wearing blue jean pants, a denim jacket, a burgundy dress shirt, and black combat boots.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the identity of the remains and the cause of death.
