NEW MARKET, MD - Rescue crews are battling a swift current in order to find a body that was spotted at Lake Linganore yesterday.

Police say two men who were fishing discovered the body around 2:00 p.m. and called authorities immediately. The body was floating in the water near Eaglehead Drive.

Police say the conditions near the dam where the body was found were too dangerous to retrieve the body Wednesday night. The body was in the spillway, which is the area that feeds out of the dam. When they tried to remove the debris around the body, it became further submerged. Crews cleared the area around 8:00 p.m. <snipped>

FREDERICK, Md. — Rescue workers in Frederick County are trying to recover a body found at Lake Linganore.
Frederick County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Cpl. Jennifer Bailey said two men fishing at the lake spotted the body in the water near the dam around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Efforts to recover the body continued until 8 p.m. and were expected to resume Thursday morning.
Bailey said rocks, debris and cold water are making the recovery difficult. The Frederick County Advanced Technical Rescue Team worked with swift water rescue teams from around the county to clear debris in an effort to free the body.
Bailey says investigators are looking into missing persons reports in Frederick County and surrounding jurisdictions.

Dive teams have resumed efforts this morning to recover a body at the Lake Linganore dam, authorities said. Two fishermen spotted the body about 2 p.m. Wednesday and called police.
Cpl. Jennifer Bailey, spokeswoman for the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, said about 30 people are involved in the effort, including the Maryland State Police dive team and an underwater dive team from Baltimore County.
The flow and force of the water prompted crews to suspend the recovery effort about 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Rocks and debris also made the recovery difficult.
After a 9 a.m. briefing today at the county law enforcement center, crews returned to the dam.

News-Post Staff LAKE Linganore --
When family friend Veronica Perkins remembers Morgan Platt, she thinks of Christopher McCandless, profiled in the book "Into the Wild," who gave up many of his possessions to hike in the Alaskan wilderness. Platt was a member of the environmental group Earth First and frequently took trips out to California to protest cutting down trees. He would climb trees to thwart loggers.
"He was concerned for the earth," she said. "He was a guardian. He wasn't into possessions."
Like McCandless, Platt was 24 when he died.
Platt was found dead Wednesday by two men fishing in the Lake Linganore dam. Because of the location, rescuers could not recover his body until Thursday afternoon.
The Frederick County Bureau of Investigations is continuing to investigate the circumstances around Platt's death, sheriff's office spokeswoman Cpl. Jennifer Bailey said.
Platt had been staying at his father's Lake Linganore home for several weeks and was planning on leaving for another trip to California. That is why his family did not initially report him missing. He had gone to California before and not told anyone.
The last time his family saw him alive was March 3. But by mid-week last week, they still had not received a phone call from him. When his father, Philip, heard about the man found in the dam, he had a sinking feeling, he said. But the height and weight were off when the description was released.
