The area where the bones were found is in Greenwood Township, about four miles southwest of Hesperia.

OCEANA COUNTY — Oceana County authorities said Friday they believe the human skeletal remains discovered in a remote Oceana County location earlier this week belonged to a man.

Investigators at the scene have also recovered a .40-caliber handgun and articles of “weathered” clothing. The type of clothing found leads authorities to believe that the remains are not a woman’s, Oceana County Sheriff’s Lt. Craig Mast said.

The skeletal remains were discovered Wednesday evening in the Manistee National Forest, near Pines Point in Greenwood Township, off 168th Avenue. Officials were called to the location after a local logger discovered the remains and contacted authorities. Deputies and detectives arrived to the scene and collected a number of bones spread out across a half-acre area.

Authorities now are trying to determine which type of crime lab will help them identify the remains.

Dental records also will be reviewed, Mast said.

Authorities believe the remains have been there for well over a year and maybe as long as five years, he said.

The closest missing person that I can find is Raymond Peters.

OCEANA COUNTY — Skeletal remains discovered in a remote area of the Manistee National Forest last month belonged to an Illinois man described by authorities as a loner who simply wanted to disappear.

It appears David A. Paleczny, 47, succeeded for many years — disappearing from his hometown in 2005 and later identified as a “missing person” on the National Crime Information Center Web site.

Authorities believe Paleczny likely shot himself near Pines Point in Oceana County’s Greenwood Township, off 168th Avenue, where a logger discovered his remains on March 24. Oceana County authorities were called to the site that day and collected a number of bones spread across a half-acre.

Paleczny, of Berwyn, Ill., was declared “missing” in 2006 and last seen by family members in November 2005. His motorcycle was discovered on April 18, 2006, about a mile from where the logger discovered his remains, said Oceana County Sheriff’s Lt. Craig Mast.

OCEANA COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM) - The human remains found almost one month ago in the Manistee National Forest in Oceana County have been identified as a missing Illinois man.

David A. Paleczny, 45, of Berwyn, Illinois had not been seen in Berwyn since November of 2005. On April 18, 2006, Michigan State Police found Paleczny's abandoned motorcycle near to where his remains were found on March 24th of 2010.

Investigators from the Michigan State Police, along with Oceana County Sheriff, Michigan State University Forensic Anthropology Department and Berwyn, IL police, have also determined that Paleczny died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. A rusted, .40 caliber handgun was found near his remains.

Thank God this man has been found. Maybe now he can truly rest in peace. Praying for his family.
Although it's very sad, at least now they don't have to wonder where he is.
