From what I read last night, police had been called to this address multiple times in the past, on domestic calls. This is just down the street from me, about 1-2 miles; a middle-class neighborhood of older homes and some apartment buildings that are not very expensive. Nothing else released so far, as to name of victim or possible arrests.

The story has been updated. Apparently her live-in boyfriend stabbed her and fled the scene before the police got there. Later in the night the boyfriend called into the police station and confessed. Another senseless death...

Apparently this boyfriend had been charged in a murder a few years ago, the shooting death of a teenage girl. The charges were eventually dropped due to some legal issue about not bringing the case to trial in a timely manner or something. If only the courts had handled this older case correctly, this murder may have been prevented.
A neighbor was quoted as saying that this couple has had DV issues in the past and the young woman had been told by at least one neighbor that sooner or later, this guy would kill her if she didn't get away from him...

It is so difficult and risky to leave an abusive relationship. In fact, I'd venture that she could have been trying to do just that, as violent people escalate when someone tries to leave and take away their "power." So incredibly sad.

From March 2015:

If all goes as currently scheduled, Jeremiah John Gurule will go to trial for the alleged murder of his girlfriend next January, just shy of six years after Elizabeth Brito died after sustaining multiple stab wounds...

Gurule, now 27, gave a statement to police after his surrender saying he was high on methamphetamine when he arrived home about 5 p.m., started “tripping on” his girlfriend and grabbed a knife...

After a scheduling conference earlier this month, the trial was set for three weeks starting Jan. 25, 2016.

According to the Bernalillo County DA:

In February of 2016, Gurule’s trial began in District Court before Judge Cristina Argyres. On February 16, 2016, the jury returned a guilty verdict of Second Degree Murder and Tampering with Evidence. He faces a total potential exposure of 18 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections. Gurule will be sentenced in the near future, though a date for that hearing is not yet set.
