One Tuesday morning, Surya Sari-Prihatin Toha got behind the wheel of her family's silver Daewoo Nubira and dropped off her two children at James S. Hunt Elementary School in Coral Springs.

Coral Springs Police Sgt. Joe McHugh explained, "What you see in the surveillance video is actually a gentleman fitting the suspect's description actually getting a bicycle out of the trunk of the car, for his ride home, and actually pushing the vehicle into the lake. At first you see him pushing through the fence and then he gets out of the car and actually physically pushes it into the lake."

Pretty incredible how they located the videotape of the crime. Good detective work!

Officers went to the parking lot near Crystal Lake because it was near where Munawar Toha worked, and they discovered a hole in the fence. They took a boat out onto the water, but they could not find the car. That was when they looked up and saw a surveillance camera pointed directly at a hole in the fence."Detectives were actually able to get surveillance video from a warehouse located in the 4100 block of Powerline Road," said Joe McHugh of the Coral Springs Police Department. How horrible. This man finds a woman to marry him who is 20 years his junior. She bears two children with him, only to have him murder her and leave his precious children with NO parents. I'm devastated for their loss, and for Surya's family.

This was not a missing person case for very long, the husband has confessed

there was video of him driving their vehicle to the lake, getting bike out of trunk and pushing vehicle into the water. He then rode off on bike
and reported her missing

What a jerk.... all teary & asking for help finding the wife.... good thing cops didn't buy his story.

It was so well planned.... the fence was unattached at a steep slope to deep water, he brought a bike to ride back home, oops! dang video cameras filmed it all.... Some guys have better luck when their wives "disappear".

This was the lead story on NG tonight. What I want to add is that the very next day the other woman's husband was arrested for HER murder. There is thread about that one too.

The second one was a woman that was killed on Easter Sunday. She was at one of the local casinos and found later on that night - found by the husband and adult son - in a warehouse district not far from the casino.

Scary connection is that both women were killed by being beaten in the head.

I live right here - where both of these happened. When they arrested the second husband, I told my DH when he got home that I was going to sleep with my baseball bat and for him not to get any ideas - hahahahahahahahaha. We're going on our 33rd year, so I'm not worried - but it does give me a bit of sarcasm. lol

Then we just had a third murder - there is a thread about this one too. This was a home invasion where a prominent professor was killed but wife and 5 yr old escaped.

Scary times down here in sunny ole SoFla.

Munawar Toha, Coral Springs police say, is a bad liar.

He told police that he had a happy marriage, even though other family members knew otherwise.

And told police that he last talked to his wife the morning she took their children to school, even though cell phone records showed that they talked again that afternoon.

All of his alleged lies convinced police that Toha was his wife's killer.

On Tuesday, they charged Toha, 63, with premeditated murder in the slaying of Surya Sari-Prihatin Toha, 41. They found her body inside the family's silver Daewoo Nubira, about 30 feet below water in a lake near her husband's workplace.

On Thursday, Toha's arrest affidavit detailed all the alleged lies he told police and friends, and how investigators debunked them.

A Broward jury on Friday convicted Munawar Toha of four counts of solicitation to commit murder for trying to hire a hit man to kill four witnesses who are prepared to testify against him at an upcoming murder trial.

Toha, 65, was already being held on a first-degree murder charge in the death of his wife, Surya Sari-Prihatin Toha, 41, when he got in touch through a fellow inmate with Fort Lauderdale Police Detective William Walker, who was posing as a hit man. In 13 separate recordings that were played for the jury, Toha could be heard talking to Walker about the need to eliminate the four witnesses and about how Toha would financially compensate the assassin.............

He was arrested on April 6, 2010.

The plot to eliminate witnesses began two months later. Oscar Izquierdo, a Broward Jail inmate serving time for 44 counts of grand theft and fraud, agreed to put Toha in touch with a hit man to take care of potentially damaging witnesses.............

In the recorded conversations, Walker continually asked Toha if he was sure he wanted to go through with it, at one point reminding him that two of the would-be victims had a young child who would need to be safe while his parents were killed and their bodies dumped in the Everglades.

Toha told Walker not to worry and promised not to have any second thoughts.

The trial for a man accused of murdering his wife began in a Broward County courtroom on Wednesday.

Police said Munwar Toha reported his wife, Surya missing in April 2010 and made a tearful public plea for help to find her. Detectives later uncovered surveillance video which, they said, shows Toha pushing his family car into a canal. His wife's body was discovered in the submerged vehicle...

"The cause of the death was blunt force trauma to the skull," said Prosecutor Tom Coleman. "Surya was struck at least five separate times with something large enough, heaving enough or hard enough to fracture her skull."

The victim's best friend, Ade Pnakovich, said Toha was a controlling figure in Sari-Prihatin's life, ultimately ending the women's friendship. A bank teller testified that Toha stood behind his wife as she withdrew more than $5,000 from her personal bank account the day before she vanished. And an insurance agent said she sold a policy that would pay Toha $150,000 in the event of his wife's death.

That policy was sold in November 2008, along with a policy that would have paid the wife $100,000 if Toha should die...

In 2012, Toha was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder. Prosecutors said he tried to hire a hit man from jail to kill four witnesses in the murder case. The hit man turned out to be an undercover Fort Lauderdale police officer. Toha is serving a 30-year prison term for that crime.

A jury has found Munawar Toha guilty of first-degree murder in the 2010 killing of his wife, Surya.

Broward County Judge Jeffrey Levenson immediately sentenced Toha to life in prison without the possibility of parole Wednesday. He's already serving a 30-year sentence for hiring a hit man to kill four witnesses in this case.
