Oh man, I lived in the Silver Valley near Kellogg in 1972 during the Sunshine silver Mine disaster in which 99 miners lost their lives.
Five children in my 5th grade class lost immediate family of some sort.
One of my clearest memories of that time is sitting in a swing on the playground and seeing that long tendril of black smoke about 12 mile distant going up into the sky.
That and all the Hearses driving around weeks later going to one funeral after another.

The minor, trapped for nine days, after the ceiling of the silver mine he was working in collapsed, is now believed dead, it has emerged.
The Hecla Mining Company today issued a statement saying they believed 53-year-old Larry Marek had been killed in the collapse at the Lucky Friday mine in Idaho.
'After more than a week of diligently working to rescue Larry Marek at the Lucky Friday mine in Northern Idaho, we are heartbroken to report that we now believe Larry was under the fall of ground when it occurred and is deceased,' the company wrote.

This is the first ive heard that they found him dead.
Sadly I figured that would be the outcome.
Prayers for his family.
I lived there in the Silver valley from 1969 to 1975 and live about five hours away now.
Very sad.
