Police are searching for a missing Kelowna man today after his truck was found abandoned on Chute Lake Road Wednesday afternoon.

61-year-old James "Jim" Black was reported missing Wednesday after his wife woke up to find him gone from their Hobson Road home.


RCMP made a breakthrough after a private security guard found a burgundy 2005 Toyota Tundra, believed to be Black's, parked in the 5000-block of Chute Lake Road. Chute Lake Road, which is on the outskirts of Kelowna, is about 5 kilometres away from Black's home.

The truck looked like it had been involved in a collision, said Sgt. Ann Morrison.


The RCMP Police Dog Service and Search and Rescue are currently searching the area around the truck with help from a police helicopter.

The RCMP are asking people in the area of Chute Lake Road to check their yards and any outbuildings them may have on their property in the event Black may have been trying to seek shelter from the cold. Again his description is as follows:
Caucasian, 61 years old, 5′9″ tall, 165 lbs, balding with a moustache; wearing a Navy Jacket with white stripes on the side, Navy pyjamas and white runners. He may also be bleeding or have bleed from a head injury.

In a press release issued earlier this afternoon, a Kelowna RCMP spokeswoman said the search for Jim Black was continuing unabated in the Chute Lake Road area.
“RCMP and Search and Rescue are active in the area conducting an extensive search. The terrain is complex with rock, trees, gullies, and a gravel pit,” said Sgt. An Morrison.
