Found Deceased CA - Piseth Chhay, 48, San Francisco, 14 May 2017

A San Francisco family needs help solving a mystery.

Piseth Chhay, disappeared on Mother's Day. He is an Uber driver.

His wife is worried that a passenger who left a phone in his car may have gotten him tangled in some kind of trouble.

San Francisco police are having a hard time tracking Chhay. His cellphone is turned off and the GPS on his Mercedes SUV is not working.

His family says Uber wants a court order to track his phone or identify his passengers.

Uber informed ABC7 News they do not believe Chhay went missing while on the Uber platform.

They also said they are working with the SFPD on the investigation and urge anyone with information to call police.

Wow. I am almost certain he was my driver a couple of months ago! I knew I recognized him, and when they mentioned his car it was confirmed confirmed.

This is crazy! I live in the city. I really hope Piseth is OK.

Yes! Uber is just waiting for a judge to sign the order that lets them (Uber) search Piseth's Uber history.

Not sure what the hold up is on that warrant. Judges sign warrants day and night. Uber tracks everything for their payroll, so it should not be a long dragged out ordeal once the order is signed.

If only the person with the lost phone would come forward. It's amazing how dedicated Uber drivers are. I lost my phone in an uber once and the driver brought it back to me. If Piseth did the same, that just shows how dedicated he was.

Was is a late-model Mercedes SUV, that maybe someone would want to steal? Really hope he is found safe and well, with only the vehicle being lost... if that.

The apps used for finding lost or stolen apple phones/computers would be my guess. They need to get access to his Uber records, fast!

I was under the impression that he disappeared while driving a passenger.
How would the passenger who left his phone in the car be able to track him to his home? Would Uber give out this info?

Where does the friend live? Did they search the route to get there?

Did the Uber passenger show up at Piseth's home?

Don't know on friend.

Sounds like he may have...but that is different info then I read yesterday?

Not sure if new info is being revealed or info is changing or just unknown?

ETA. Dissapeared on Mother's Day. I read they have children.
Why would he return a phone on Mother's Day if indeed it was not picked up at his house. Possibly someone came by for their phone and he wasnt home and then went to return?
So now reported he went to a friends house. On Mother's Day? Did the phone belong to a friend/the passenger was a friend??

ETA Why would the wife think the phone left behind got him tangled up in some kind of trouble? What kind of trouble??

Does LE or Piseth's family have any reason at all to suspect the friend? If so, s/he needs to be looked into. In the meantime, the route he would have taken to get there definitely needs to be searched, if not already (I haven't seen anything to suggest this has been done, other than "Chhay's nephews searched a San Francisco parking lot hoping to find his silver Mercedes SUV dumped inside but they didn't have any luck"). And I'm sure this is something LE has already tried and continues to do, but has his phone pinged at all, in case someone turns it on? I know it takes time, but phone GPS records?

I have the same question: Was the passenger ever actually there at Piseth's home? Did s/he show up when Piseth wasn't around and made whoever that answered the door uncomfortable (but if that was the case, why no description of the person -at least gender, race, hair color, etc.-, unless it was one of Piseth's children who saw the person)?

Personally, if the passenger only reached out to Piseth by phone -from a friend's phone, home phone, etc.-, I would not find that suspicious in itself. While visiting San Francisco last month -O/T: love the city, as well as nearby Yosemite-, I used Uber three times, and two of those times, the driver called me on my cell to verify my pick-up location; both times, the driver's number showed up on my phone. I know for sure if I'd left something valuable -such as a phone- in the car, I would have at least tried calling them.

So unless LE and/or family knows something that's not being released, I'm not sure what's more relevant: What Piseth was doing and where he was headed when he went missing, or who left a cell phone in his vehicle and if intentional, why.
