Another baby giraffe needs our prayers and healing energy.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/features/pets/bs-md-baby-giraffe-20170708-story.html

A 3-week-old baby giraffe has been placed in intensive care at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore after a sudden change in its bloodwork.

The calf, Julius, has been struggling since he was born June 15 at the Maryland Zoo. He received a plasma transfusion from a giraffe in Ohio a few days after he was born.

In a statement early Saturday, the zoo said the changes in Julius' bloodwork are "a serious concern for the giraffe care and veterinary teams." He is receiving hour-by-hour care, and efforts are continuing to feed him by bottle.

hang in there Julius!

Opy says "yo"
He still sleeps in the basket. I've just given up moving it because he cries for it lol. How this is comfy is beyond me. He reminds me of a stuffed bird about to go in the oven. [emoji23][emoji23] have a happy Sunday folks! :)

Sad news about baby Julius

https://www.washingtonpost.com/loca...bccc2e7bfbf_story.html?utm_term=.b6927a6d0822

Julius, the month-old giraffe born at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, died Saturday morning after being euthanized following a prolonged illness and intense efforts to restore his health, the zoo announced.

The death came hours after the zoo said his condition had deteriorated Thursday night into Friday and that his chances of survival were slim. The six-foot-tall giraffe calf had been put on an IV administering a “life-supporting solution.”

Statement from the Maryland Zoo regarding baby giraffe Julius.

I haven't seen much mention of how his mama is doing but I hope they are looking after her mental/physical/emotional health as well.

Julius was born to first time mother Kesi during the early morning hours of Thursday, June 15, 2017. Despite the wonderful maternal care provided by Kesi, Julius was never able to learn to nurse effectively. Staff began to supplement him with a special colostrum formula within 24-hours and attempted to teach him to bottle feed. In order to boost his immune system, he was given two transfusions of giraffe plasma, from the Columbus and Cheyenne Mountain Zoos, as well as multiple courses of antibiotics, IV fluids, and other intensive care in order to provide nutritional support and to stabilize his condition. Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital also provided clinical support for the implementation of a Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) IV formula, as well as generously donating the TPN to the Zoo.
