FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Two women are missing after someone opened fire on them in Fayetteville, say police who are concerned for the safety of the missing woman and looking for her.

Ashley Davila, 29, and Heather Carter, 28, had driven to the Zip-N-Mart in the 2400 block of Hope Mills Road.
In the early morning Wednesday, while the two were near the business, someone began shooting at them, police said.
Davila was hit in the hand, but was able to drive away.

Carter couldn't get back in the car with Davila.

Detectives are worried about Carter's safety, and they're asking anyone with information on where she is, to come forward.

They also want to talk to Davila. She was arrested on an unrelated charge. She posted bond but hasn't made contact with detectives.

Surely there are some cameras around there to get a look at the shooter. The Zip N mart is part of a strip mall basically. Did the shooter drive away in their car?
If there is footage of the incident maybe we could see which way Carter was headed as she was fleeing? And if she was chased by the shooter?

Missing mom worried for her daughter: http://abc11.com/news/fayetteville-man-fears-for-daughter-who-is-still-missing/2234959/

WTVD) -- A Fayetteville father is desperate for answers after his daughter Heather Carter went missing just days after a stern warning about her ex-husband.

Instead Police say Heather Carter left home Wednesday with her friend Ashley Davila to meet up with her ex-husband, 28-year-old Jimmy Lee Profitt II, near the Superior Shopping Center on Hope Mills Road.

...then they were shot at....

Police say Davila drove off without Heather Carter despite the fact that Heather was in desperate need of a hospital. Police say Profitt kidnapped his ex-wife in a green Cadillac sedan that was later found with a significant of amount of Heather's blood inside.

We're not looking for the car, we're not looking for the suspect, and we're looking for where Heather is, where she was taken," Orellano said. "We believe she was taken to the Hope Mills area and we found the vehicle in Stedman."

[h=1]Police searching for missing woman in woods behind Hope Mills neighborhood[/h]
HOPE MILLS — More than 75 officers searched a wooded area behind a Hope Mills neighborhood Thursday morning for a woman who went missing after being shot last week.

Fayetteville police Sgt. Shawn Strepay said evidence led detectives to focus their search for Heather Carter in a wooded area behind the Village Green and East Hampton neighborhoods.

As of Thursday evening, they had not found her.
“Other areas may come up,” Strepay said.
Officers began searching the area just before daybreak until the afternoon.
Proffitt, 28, of the 3200 block of Tully Lane in Hope Mills, was arrested Monday by Fayetteville police.

He has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, possession of a firearm by a felon and first-degree kidnapping, an arrest warrant said.

His bail was set at $1 million.

Police say he is not cooperating with the investigation.

A Police Department news release said detectives received information that Proffitt had been to a secluded area at the rear of the neighborhood shortly after the shooting.
Police declined to release what information they obtained and how it was obtained.

Friday evening, deputies said they were fairly confident the victim is not 28-year-old Heather Carter, who disappeared July 12 after being kidnapped by her ex-husband.

The former spouse, Jimmy Lee Proffitt, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping and a list of other charges. He remains behind bars and refuses to talk to authorities.

Not sure if this is Heather Carter they have found, but the last name of one of those charged is interesting:

Paige Nicole Carter, 26, of 1030 Spring Branch Road in Dunn has been charged with one count of failure to report a death.

According to the Harnett County Sheriff's Office, Robin Brown and Michael Denning with also be charged with failure to report a death.

The charges stem from the discovery of a decomposed body off Cool Springs Road near Broadway on Aug. 17.
The body, which authorities said appeared to be that of a woman in her 20s or 30s, was found as authorities investigated the death of Marcus Fisher, whose body was found in the back yard of a home on Bailey road in Coats just after midnight Thursday.

They obtained surveillance video from a nearby business and want to talk to the two women seen in a picture taken from the video. The women are not charged, but are believed to have information that may prove vital in the case, police said. Detectives are asking the women, anyone who can identify them or anyone with information about the case to contact Detective M. Wooten at 391-8630 or Crimestoppers at 483-TIPS (8477).
