Rocker Legend Tom Petty dies at 66

Longtime fan of Tom Petty - his music videos were the best part of MTV back when it had music videos. What a horrible shock! :( RIP Mr Petty thank you for your incredible music. Running down a dream...

Refugee (my favorite Petty song) was the first song I thought of when I heard the news of his death. Glad to hear he is still hanging in there.
My thoughts are with his family and I'm thinking positive for him.

Mary Jane's Last Dance.

I wondered briefly if this was a hoax. (Ok, I HOPED, not wondered.)

Last time he was here in Phoenix, we got pulled over on the freeway just after his show. I accidentally cut off a motorcycle (no crash or anything, shame on me, my brother died after being hit by a bus while on his motorcycle) and the cop pulled me over, thought I was drunk. I don't even drink, so it was great. Cop could not believe I don't drink. Had me touch my nose and walk toe to heel then let me go, reminding me to be more careful.

This is not about me, but it is the memory I will have forever... I have one of those "remember that one time after the Tom Petty concert..." stories to tell.

Now, what is really going on?

I'm just broken. I'm not ready to lose this legend. I don't normally concern over celebs, but Tom Petty is top shelf.

I was listening to the radio and the station played a couple of his songs and after said that he had passed. My only words were dammit and damn.
I'm actually staying away from looking up updates because the last I heard he was still alive and I'd like to keep it that way.
It's silly to hope that he may recover but I'm hoping.

This has been a crappy day all the way around. :(

This is tragic. I greatly enjoyed Petty's music when I was little.

Death appears to be imminent if it has not already arrived. RIP Tom.

I suspect it's more of a Carrie Fisher type situation. Either that or someone risked a severe HIPAA violation by leaking info that maybe had not yet been authorized by the family or representatives. :( I mean, hope for the best, but I've not much of it, sadly.

CBS Erroneously Reports Tom Petty’s Death, Setting Off an Outpouring

The news ricocheted around the web immediately: CBS News was reporting that Tom Petty was dead.

It kicked off widespread reaction and remembrances on Monday, with star singers like John Mayer, Shania Twain and Jon Bon Jovi all paying tribute to Mr. Petty on Twitter.

It soon emerged, however, that the news was premature.

This has been a crappy day all the way around. :(

For sure. :tears: A good man gone too soon..... and many other lives lost before they should have, also. It has felt like s very long and draining day of sadness all around.

RIP Tom Petty. you will live on through your music.

It surely would be wonderful if he recovers, but after the reports that are already out, it doesn't sound like that is likely.

How could this happen - the false report of his death? Someone at the hospital overheard talk about "the plug being pulled", mistakenly thought it had already happened and and reported it to TMZ would be one explanation I'm just very surprised that CBS went ahead with the report of his death based on the TMZ story.

TMZ seems to be like The Enquirer. A lot of what they publish is true but a certain percentage of it just might not be true. There are time the Enquirer will say within a story that the source passed a lie detector test. I don't think TMZ administers lie detector tests to their sources.

By the way, plugs are not usually "pulled" quite that fast. Brain scans and other tests are performed. Usually family members come to say their goodbyes. Sometimes the patient is an organ donor.

I thought I heard his wife say he had "hepatitis for years" during the 911 call. http://www.tmz.com/2017/10/02/tom-p...life-support/?adid=sidebarwidget-most-popular

Neither his wife or the other person present knew CPR. Always a good thing to learn. You can never know when you'll need it.
