TEXAS MIST, thank you for the link regarding the article confirming the submission of DNA by Jeff Davis police and other included agencies. The local news, KPLC, only has a tiny paragraph on it that states very little compared to your article. Hopefully it will be updated soon to include full coverage.

Almost all members of the Jennings Police Department and Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office have provided a DNA sample in an effort to allay concerns that a member of law enforcement may be involved in the deaths of eight women there.
Sheriff Ricky Edwards said they now are wrapping up the process, which began several months ago.

Edwards said he personally has been swabbed, but declined to comment specifically as to who else has submitted their DNA.

8 Deaths in a Small Town, and Much Unease
January 1, 2010
Quote:

Melissa Gary, the mother of Ms. Lopez, said she woke up every morning wondering what had happened to her child. When she shows up for work at the truck stop casino by the highway, she says she wonders if she is coming face to face with the killer.
Or the killer could be a complete stranger. She just does not know. Nobody knows.
“There’s eight murders in Jeff Davis parish, and not one’s been solved,” Ms. Gary said, breaking down in tears.
“Something is wrong in this parish,” she said. “Something is wrong in Jeff Davis Parish.”

Louisiana Police Hunt Elusive Serial Killer
Mar 4, 2010
Quote:
Investigators in southwestern Louisiana have been hunting for a serial killer blamed for the deaths of at least eight women in the past five years.
Despite the formation of a task force, the involvement of a private investigator and the utilization of a world-renowned criminal profiler, the case remains unsolved and the killer could strike again at any time.
Some of the victims' family members banded together to hire Kirk Menard, a private investigator from Egan, La.
Since getting involved in the case, Menard says he has uncovered hundreds of leads and tips, all of which he has turned over to the task force. He has also been secretly videotaping women in the area, in hopes of capturing one of them on film getting into a vehicle with the perpetrator. He said he managed to capture video of Guillory two months before her death, but it 's unclear whether the video contains any evidence.

Cold Case Cards
Apr 20, 2010
Quote:

A new deck of playing cards will be distributed throughout state prisons, with hopes of solving cold case homicides.
The cards have murder victim's pictures on them, and will be the only playing cards state prisoners will be allowed to use.
Of the 52 cards, 6 of the victims are from Acadiana. Three of them are from St. Landry Parish, and the others are the first three victim's of the suspected serial killer in Jeff Davis Parish.

6-part video series from KATC-TV 3 Who's Killing Jennings (5/25-29/10):
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
Text that originally accompanied the videos. The videos do not work on the following links any longer which is why I posted the facebook links above:
Part 1
Quote:
|
Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff, Ricky Edwards heads up the investigation for the eight homicide cases, but he hasn't said these women are the victims of a serial killer. He says "We look at all aspects as i said in our press conference that the word serial is probably applicable. it doesn't help us in our investigation one way or the other whether it's described as serial or not, so we're looking at it both collectively and singularly. It's an anomaly that eight in this short period and from the same area and the way they are disposed. so that is one of the major links that we look at, behaviorally."
|
Part 2
Quote:
Sarah Benoit, the mother of victim Crystal Shay Zeno, describes her daughter as generous and loving.
Sonya Beard is the first cousin of Whitnei Dubois and recalls the talents that made Whitnei shine.
"She could sing. Whitnei was in chorus. She sang in church. That's what she did. She made us laugh. She was funny. She was a good girl," says Beard.
Kindra Brown says Muggy got her nickname from playing in the mud as a child. The name changed from Muddy to Muggy because of Laconia's mean mugging tough exterior. But as her sister tells us, Muggy was once just a little sister who wasn't always so tough.
|
Part 3
Quote:
The population of jennings is just more than 12,000 residents. In a town that small, the crime rate per capita is startling. Though it hasn't increased since the first unsolved murder in 2005, the average crime index in Jennings has been well over the US average. But the Chief says he doesn't believe there are more drugs or crime in Jennings than any other town and that residents should feel safe.
But even with extra patrols and help from state police, some jennings residents just can't seem to shake the uncertainty.
"Something's rotten in the cotton, " says Jennings resident Nellie Berry.
|
Part 4
Quote:
|
The community support is evident on both sides of Jennings. The victims were known to mostly frequent the South side of Jennings, the side of town some see as forgotten and dangerous. but the mayor says there are hard-working people who care about the community on both sides of town. He says the people of jennings are what make jennings great.
|
Part 5
Quote:
Five years and eight unsolved murders. That's the focus of our week-long special report on "Who's killing jennings?"
For the first time, Criminal Psychologist Dr. Maurice Godwin gives his answer to that question.
In an exclusive interview with KATC Dr. Godwin describes why the killer kills. When he kills and what motivates him to commit these brutal, senseless crimes..
|
Part 6
Quote:
|
Five years of mounting questions but few answers is creating uncertainty and a "rumor mill" in Jennings. A grapevine that's causing mistrust among nervous residents "and" among those who are there to protect them.

Surveillance shows last moments before Jennings teen's disappearance

Video coverage about Brittney's case. There's a brief clip from the Family Dollar video surveillance at the 1:54 mark.

Jeff Davis victim #8 on surveillance - article & video
Quote:

Family members of Necole Guillory have released surveillance video of her taken about two months before she died. The video was shot by a private investigator hired by relatives of three victims from Jeff Davis Parish. Guillory's family hopes the video will help lead to more information about her disappearance. It's an eerie coincidence that surveillance video shot by a private eye investigating the deaths of women in Jeff Davis Parish would capture images of one who would soon become a victim: Necole Guillory.

Excellent coverage by KPLC-TV Channel 7, Lake Charles, LA.
"Unsolved: Mystery in Jeff Davis Parish"
Oct 28 2009
This is rather lengthy viewing in 7 segments but well worth the time. A couple of the segments may have brief commercials preceding them:

Case Coverage
I have been working this case and airing on my show off and on since May 2011. This case is indeed complicated and the gross disorganization and lack of follow through that this task force, led by a sheriff with no prior law enforcement background, let alone serial homicide cases, has shown only seems to make matters worse. I have been backing off to see what the lame duck sheriff might do as he prepares to leave office and makes room for Ivy Woods.
I do stay in touch with many there and hope things change and just hope that those few bad apples that seem to make solving this cases impossible are removed and a new task force is formed with more reliance on more experienced and equipped state and federal agencies and properly vetted locals.
Here is the link to my show's most recent episode regarding that case:

Jennings Police Chief and Mayor React to Documentary
Posted: Mar 1, 2012 10:09 PM by Maddie Garrett
Updated: Mar 1, 2012 10:26 PM
"I didn't agree with everything that I saw or heard," said Jennings Mayor Terry Duhon.
Duhon and Jennings Police Chief Todd D'Albor said while they were never contacted by the show's creator, they respect the show and Phelps' right to express his own opinions.

The Jennings Daily News now says they've confirmed a search warrant was issued to a Spencer Street residence on Monday in connection with Laconia "Muggy" Brown's murder.
Quote:
Jennings Daily News
March 3, 2012
City police and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Forensic Investigation Unit executed a search warrant at a Spencer Street residence Monday, and the Jennings Daily News has since confirmed through anonymous sources that the investigation is related to the 2008 Laconia “Muggy” Brown murder case.
Police were spotted at the Spencer Street residence from approximately 8:30-10 p.m. Monday. No arrests have been made as of press time today, and police are tight-lipped about what the search revealed, if anything.
