Why are they so quick to dismiss the 9 year olds story? Yes it's strange but she is 9, not 3.

I agree with you Claudette. I would love to hear what the 9 year old would say today as an adult. I'm she would still be alive today.

This is a curious case. I wonder, if like other cases of the day (Ruth Baumgardne for one), she was found and the story was swept under the rug to save the families reputation.

Just a thought but..... She was already in her 30's when she got married, which is on the older side for those days. Maybe she had a darker life in her 20's which involved questionable people. She could have tried to get away from her previous life and that may have made someone angry. It just seems to me that she probably knew the guy, possibly someone from a past she wanted to forget?

Very true, I wonder if we can find any info on the children.

She for sure knew the guy no doubt. But the fact that no one recognized points to your theory, she has some kind of past or secret life. The only other theory I believe is possible is he had ties to her husband not her. Either way, whoever he was, he was not a stranger to that family.

BUMP!

The case is still unsolved, however this blog adds that the little girl was checked by Psychatrists and they all agree she was telling the truth.

Also in one of the comments:

A guy who wrote an article on this got a letter from a lawyer representing the Forstein family. The lawyer asked for the articles to be removed.

And that comment is accurate. I found the blog of the writer. His name is Troy Taylor and he wrote the Book "Without a Trace'

Also a swedish website mentions the husband was a Judge. (Use google translate)

Maybe I have just been a true crime fan for too long, but I think hubby hired a hit man for the dissapearance. And I think the hit man was warned to be sure the children were not hurt, which is the reason for the care shown to their safety. Oldest daughter out for the night, and hubby knew that.

The first attack may not have even been connected. A big coincidence, yes, but not impossible.

What I find suspicious is the cease & decease letter from the family lawyer. Why after all these years?

That letter is suspect. Are we sure that any family is living? Was the lawyer checked out? Is he legit?

The Lawyer asked to respect the privacy, but I wonder if the judge is still alive or any immediate family.

There's a family member on the net, if my research is correct, that worked for a law firm, it's possible the request came via that route.

I don't get why, if it is a grandchild, they wouldn't want to know who killed granny. So, Robin Hood, was it a grandchild who sent that letter?

I think that husband had something to do with Dorothy's death. Is that little girl who was the last to see Dorothy still alive? I wonder what she thinks now?

Bumping for Dorothy.
Could this be her? Has anyone submitted this?

Dorothy Forstein was a blond, and this woman was a redhead. Of course, hair color can be altered. Unfortunately, I don't see a detailed description of Dorothy anywhere online. If you look at the comments on the blog posted above, the concensus seems to be that the magistrate hired someone to rub out his wife. If that's what happened, she probably died the night she was abducted, so this Jane Doe's date of death would be too late. I think it would be worth the effort to rule the match, though.
*
The thankless part of trying to make these matches is that many UID's were likely never reported missing. That WV Jane Doe could easily be a woman who was killed by her husband and for whom a missing person report was never filed.

Very strange story and no pictures. What I find hard to understand is the daughter seeing her mother lying face down as the man was coming up the stairs, so was she was already dead or maybe given poison, or better still sleeping pills. (poison would have probably made her sick and she could have called for help.

Did the husband have a girl friend? Didn't her family get involved? It is true that in the 40's life was very different than today, We really know nothing,

Yeah, where was Dorothy's family in all this? Such an odd case and even more odd that for whatever reason, after all these years, there seem to be those who don't want this case looked into.

One thing I've noticed since I started researching these cases is that when they are finally solved, nothing is as it originally seemed on the outside looking in.
