South Florida ICE official arrested on child porn charges
updated 1:11 PM EST, Wed September 28, 2011
...A law enforcement official who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media said Mangione has been on leave from his job at ICE. WPTV reported he was placed on paid administrative leave in April amid a federal investigation into four images on his home computer he allegedly received via e-mail.
According to its website, ICE targets and investigates child pornographers, child sex tourists and facilitators and human smugglers and traffickers of minors, among others. The agency developed Operation Predator, which it describes as "an initiative to identify, investigate and arrest child predators and sexual offenders."...
I guess they're sure this wasn't job related.

Local here.
First, this guy - the one busted - was the TOP DOG of ICE down here. He ran the show.
Second, I've seen (and heard) that he's been charged with trafficking child porn, which means he was "selling" or "trading it". Common sense tells me that if this was a "job related sting" operation that it would have been known what he was doing.
Third, the child porn was found on his HOME computer at his HOUSE. No where near his office or job equipment.
Such a shame and an embarrassment. How can we ever get a handle on our "immigration" problems here (which are far and wide reaching.....) if the guys we put in charge are deviants?

Um wow. Yeah, I would imagine the excuse is going to be, I only had child porn cause it was my job to track down ths scum. Problem is, as you said WOO, if that were teh case, there would be some official sanction of his activities and they certainly would not be taking place from his home computer. What creeps me out, is that if this guy is guilty.
That means by attempting to stop this filth, we have actually created agencies and positions for pedo sickos. What better way to hide right in plain sight all the while revictimizing the innocent victims by taking pleasure in your authorized access to the "evidence"?

How many images did they find on his computers, removable media and etc?
To me only four sounds like a set up. Esp. if he received them through email. We all know that porn collectors and traders collect, save and preserve their collections. And they amass thousands of images. Not four.
Still it wouldn't be the first time an official even a high official got caught with porn. His defense will probably be that he had to review it for some reason. But even if a 'friend' sent it to him for review, he should have determined it to be porn and their should be a record of him assigning the case to an agent.
