IN - Remains of woman dead four years found in casket in former funeral home
Remains of woman, 81, found in abandoned casket at funeral home... FOUR YEARS after she died
Quote:
The remains of an 81-year-old woman were found in an abandoned casket at a funeral home where they had been stashed since she died nearly four years ago.
Workers found the decayed body of Pauline Keller as they renovated the building in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Tuesday.
Ms Keller was left to rot in a casket hidden in the mortuary after a funeral home director with a history of improperly disposing of human remains allegedly failed to bury her in a cemetery.

So....what went wrong here?
Quote:
In a statement to WTHR, [Marvin] Boatwright claimed he was locked out of his funeral home by the owners of the building and never had a chance to bury the body.
'I completely forgot about Ms Keller until I heard her name,' he said.

Being kind to the cruel results in being cruel to the kind.

How sad-- it's not uncommon for folks that age not to have any family surviving to take care of them. That generation endured the Great Depression and WWll and quite easily could have sacrificed her siblings and a childhood sweetheart. Not everyone leaves a living legacy, but all deserve to be treated with care and dignity. Shame on Boatwright!
Sad that her caregiver now carries this regret with him-- that he didn't "follow her to the graveyard"-- it's definitely not a victimless crime, imo.
