Drew Peterson demands halt to movie about him
Staff report
Chicago Tribune
10:05 a.m. CDT, July 14, 2011
(snipped)
"Lawyers for Drew Peterson are demanding that filming be halted on a made-for-TV movie about the former cop, arguing it invades his privacy and is nothing more than a "character assassination" that would "prejudice any potential jury pool."
The lawyers ask the makers of the movie to "cease and desist" all work on the movie by Friday or face legal action."
""Please govern your conduct accordingly," attorney Walter Maksym ends his seven-page letter to Lifetime Entertainment, A&E Television Networks, Disney and others."

Appeals court upholds limits on Drew Peterson hearsay evidence
Will County prosecutors were dealt a significant setback in the Drew Peterson case today, as an appellate court refused their request to allow critical hearsay statements at the ex-Bolingbrook police officer’s murder trial.

Drew Peterson case heading to the Supreme Court
snipped
"A Will County Judge kicked out eight of 14 damning hearsay statements prosecutors want to use against accused wife-killer Drew Peterson. The appellate court agreed to keep them out. And now Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow is going to the state supreme court in a last ditch effort to get them spoken aloud at Peterson’s murder trial.
Glasgow filed his petition to appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court Friday, asking the state’s top judges to overturn a decision on hearsay evidence made by now retired Will County Judge Stephen White in 2010."

Lawyer: Peterson a ‘hostage’ of prosecutors’ court appeals
"CHICAGO — Drew Peterson’s attorneys have asked the Illinois State Supreme Court to order the former police officer released from jail where he has been held for more than two years on charges of murdering his third wife, saying prosecutors’ appeal to the same court over hearsay evidence has violated his right to a speedy trial.
“It’s a matter of fundamental fairness,” said the 57-year-old Peterson’s lead attorney Joel Brodsky, who said he mailed the appeal to the court Monday night.
Peterson, a retired Bolingbrook police sergeant, has been in jail since 2009.
His trial in the drowning death of ex-wife Kathleen Savio, originally scheduled to begin in July of last year, has been on hold since prosecutors appealed a judge’s decision to bar them from presenting statements Savio allegedly made about him before her body was discovered in a dry bathtub in 2004.
After prosecutors announced the appeal, Will County Circuit Judge Stephen White ruled there were “compelling reasons” not to reduce Peterson’s $20 million bond. "

Drew Peterson Stays Put
"Drew Peterson's lawyers have failed to get him out of jail more times than the serial marrier has wives.
A fifth bid to get the accused wife-killer out of the Will County jail apparently fell on deaf ears at the Illinois Supreme Court late Monday."

This is priceless
Benchslap of the Day: A Billy Madison Style Rambling, Incoherent Complaint
snipped
"It’s not every day that attorneys repeatedly file “unintelligible” complaints that are “riddled with errors.” (Okay, maybe it is every day.)
But it’s really not every day that Drew Peterson’s attorney — yes, that Drew Peterson — attempts to file the same complaint three times, appeals to the Seventh Circuit only to get smacked down, and is then ordered to show cause as to why his federal license to practice shouldn’t be tossed out.
Let’s take a look at what Walter Maksym attempted to file, and why he faced the wrath of the Seventh Circuit earlier this week…."

Join Team Missing Stacy Peterson and walk against abuse
"On Saturday, the first of October, people will gather all over the country for the beginning of National Domestic Awareness Month. For the third year the Guardian Angels Community Service agency’s domestic violence program, Groundwork, has organized a 5k walk to honor the victims of violence, bring awareness to the community, and to raise funds for their programs.
Team Missing Stacy Peterson will be walking again this year to remind the Chicago area and the nation that the lives of those in violent situations matter. The team hopes to be the voice for a woman who has been silenced, and to show their commitment to all victims by helping the Groundwork program keep their services available. One of the goals of Team Missing Stacy Peterson is to refocus attention onto the victims of intimate partner violence and missing persons and away from the perpetrators who garner the majority of media attention. Drew Peterson calls Rob Lowe's portrayal of him 'hysterical'
By Stacy St. Clair, Chicago Tribune
"Sitting inside the Will County jail this afternoon, Drew Peterson watched an advance copy of a made-for-TV about his life and, according to his lawyer, had one overriding response to Rob Lowe’s portrayal of him while sporting a mustache: “Hysterical.”
"He thought it was hysterical," said Joel Brodsky, Peterson's lead defense attorney. "He chuckled at all of the inaccuracies and things that never happened."

Memo to the Lifetime Channel: Stacy Peterson is Still Missing
"The Lifetime Channel should consider each time they repeat the movie "Untouchable" to include links and information on that fact that Stacy Peterson is still a missing person. She needs to be found. And where the public can go to learn about how they can assist."

Last Chance For Drew Peterson to Dodge Prison Sentence For Wife Slay
If Drew Peterson doesn't win his hearing for a new murder trial this week, the judge is packing him off to prison.
"Drew Peterson has one more shot to dodge a trip to Stateville, and it all comes down to a hearing scheduled to start Tuesday morning.
After more than three and a half years in the Will County jail and a five-week trial that wrapped up in September, the disgraced former Bolingbrook cop's lawyers will try to convince Judge Edward Burmila to give him a do-over.
And that's not all— matters from a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Peterson by his slain third wife's family will be shoehorned into the proceedings. And one of Peterson's current attorneys, Steve Greenberg, expects to argue that Judge Burmila should sanction former Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky.
But wait—there's more"...:

Will County prosecutor Glasgow still searching for Stacy Peterson
" ◆ Translation: Sneed has learned that Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow has not given up his pursuit of convicted murderer Drew Peterson’s missing fourth wife, Stacy.
Sneed hears Glasgow plans to convene a summit of his legal eagles to revisit Stacy’s case in hopes of charging Peterson with her murder — and is preparing to announce that the $100,000 reward for information leading to Stacy’s whereabouts is still available.
◆ Set shot: “Now that Peterson is serving a 38-year sentence at the Pontiac Correctional Center for the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, perhaps someone who has evidence — but was afraid to come forward because they feared Peterson would get off — will now contact us,” Glasgow told Sneed.
◆ Penalty shot: “I have been in touch with Jeff Ruby, the restaurateur from Cincinnati who offered the $100,000 reward before the Peterson trial, and he is willing to keep the reward going until we find Stacy,” he said."

Judge refers ex-Peterson attorney's remarks to disciplinary panel
Denies defense team's motions to reduce sentence and gag Joel Brodsky, but calls former lead lawyer's public statements shocking
By Steve Schmadeke, Chicago Tribune reporter
6:30 a.m. CST, March 6, 2013
The judge who oversaw the Drew Peterson murder trial said in court Tuesday that he was shocked by some public statements made by Peterson's former lead attorney and would bring them to the attention of the state's disciplinary body for lawyers.
Judge Edward Burmila denied motions by Peterson's defense team to reduce his 38-year sentence to the minimum of 20 years and to silence former Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky regarding the case, said Charles Pelkie, a spokesman for the Will County state's attorney's office.
Although Burmila denied the motion on Brodsky, he ordered the court clerk to send a transcript of the hearing to the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, Pelkie said. The judge was concerned about statements Brodsky made on WGN-TV after the sentencing, Pelkie said.
